I have been reading the message boards here for a couple of months, but this is the first time I have posted. It is such a relief to read other people's stories and how they deal with IBS. I have suffered from IBS for 20 years and it runs in my family so I have always thought it was something I just had to live with. It actually has gotten worse for me as I have gotten older and I think that has alot to do with the mental aspect of having IBS. I tend to worry more now or maybe it is just from years of experience of being caught places without a bathroom and having to go NOW. My husband has heard that so many times over the years and God Bless him, he has become an expert at finding a bathroom for me and fast. I accidently discovered Heather's book several months ago and it has changed my life. We live on an American Base overseas so many of the soy products I cannot get right now. Luckily I can get soymilk. I am looking forward to going back to the states so that I can try all the wonderful products you all talk about. I just wanted to let you all know how much I enjoy reading your ideas, stories and recipes. I also admire how supportive you are of each other.

Yes, this is a wonderful site. There is so much information available here I could read for days and not get to it all. It really feels like a miracle that there is help out there and I feel I have my life back.

Welcome to the boards, Janey! I'm so glad Heather's books have helped you... they've certainly been a godsend for me, too! I think you'll be pleasantly surprised when you see all the soy products available in the states. I can spend hours in the health food store because there's so much fun stuff!!

Anyway, feel free to ask any questions you have. I'll see you around!

What a nice post!

I'm fascinated at how many people, like you, hang around the boards for months before posting. I couldn't do that; I'd have to "dive right in," anxious to share stories and find out what others think about things. I'm glad you finally did because there are so many people here who can help you.

It must be tough being on a military base in a foreign country. At least you get to explore the area a little, I hope? Take lots of pictures; that's what my hubby did when he was overseas with the Army.

Ah yes, being caught places and having to go NOW; that sounds SOOOOO familiar! You must be a D -- like me. Fun stuff, eh?

You said, "... I think that has alot to do with the mental aspect of having IBS." Oh yeah, I can relate! Please
check out the hypnotherapy board. I got a LOT of help from Michael. I finished his IBS hypnotherapy program 2 months ago and in 1 more month I can start his other program. He's awesome. I strongly recommend it!

Again, welcome! Glad to have you on board(s)!

Bev

Welcome Janey! I just saw your post and so glad you like the board. I was wondering if you can ask your base commissary to order certain products for you. I lived in Vienna for a while and we had access to the commissary for embassy employees and it could get anything for us, if we were willing to wait (for instance a tofu turkey). What country are you in? Maybe some of the products are availble there, or at least similar products. Either way, great idea to stock up when you visit the states!
