I have read so many horrible experiences from some of the members of this site and I am praying for a better outcome for myself and others going through this.
Some doctors just don't relate well to patients and I am nervous.

I wish you the best of luck. Don't be too nervous. Just try and explain as clearly as you can your problems to him and feel free to ask any questions -- that's what he's there for.
I was lucky (the second time around) and found a great GI.

Wishing you luck for your first appt. Hope it all goes well for you. 
There have been plenty of people who have had lots of bad luck with their GI, but remember not all are bad. You need to find one you are comfortable with and who listens to you.

My GI was marvelous on my first visit. I even brought him a videotape on the second visit -- I taped the episode of "King of the Hill" in which the father had a sigmoidoscopy and the son watched the procedure through the monitor as the camera went up his colon, as if he was watching TV. It was hilarious. My GI loved it. We had a good laugh -- he said it really helps to keep your sense of humor -- I thought he was terrific.
My colonoscopy was a pleasure! I had NOOOOO problems at all. It wasn't until AFTER the procedure, when he recommended surgery (which he admitted I didn't need), and I declined the surgery, that he showed me the door. "Next patient, please!"
You will have a much easier time of it than most, because you're more knowledgeable about IBS. I was so blind, I thought I had IBD -- the nurse had to correct me. I didn't know what to ask the GI; I was totally unprepared, yet I had a very pleasant, encouraging experience (proving that even GIs can have a sense of humor).
