Is there an easy way to measure egg whites?

The egg whites I buy come in a carton that says it contains the equivalent to 8 egg whites. When a recipe calls for one, I find it hard to measure it out. Obviously if I have a full carton I could just take an 1/8 of the carton, but when I don't have full carton I'm lost. Does anyone know an easy way to measure out egg whites? For example, is one egg white a tablespoon? 2 tablespoons?
Thanks!
Kelly

Hmm... how much is in the carton? The only way I can think of to determine how many tablespoons it is is to divide the carton measurement by 8. See, this is why I don't cook.

I know, I'm so lousy in the kitchen but really trying to learn! I just find there isn't enough pre-made stuff that's safe for me to eat around here...however, I don't know how "safe" my cooking is either

For example I will use eggbeater...(which are really egg white)

1/4 cup of eggbeaters = 1 egg

Does that help?

Thanks for the info. I wanted to try and make the Cornbred recipe from Heather's book, and it calls for one egg white, so would that just mean 1/4 cup or so? I'm sorry, I'm really new to cooking and hate it when I spend all that time and then create an unedible disaster!

if you only need one egg white... that would be 1/8 cup eggbeaters....you could just use a 1/4 cup and only fill half way.

Hi Vikki, welcome to the boards!

When you're on the main screen for any message board just hit "Post." That will allow you to start a new topic.

I don't know if you've done this or not, but Heather has a post that's labeled something like, "Read this first" that has a link to a lot of frequently asked questions new people have. And you can also do a search for any general questions.

Hope this helps, Jenny

Not a problem. First, get out of where you are now, out of this post. Go up to "IBS Diet" up above -- see it up there? Click it, then you'll see a different menu. Under IBS Diet you'll see "POST" -- click it. Then you just follow the windows, first the subject line, then the message, etc.

Be sure your message relates to the IBS diet. If it relates to a recipe, then you need to go into the recipe board. If it relates to the hypnotherapy, you need to go into the hypno board. If you just want to chat about NON-IBS stuff, just fun stuff, it's the Living Room Board.

By the way, welcome to the boards!

You can look at the carton and see how many ounces are in it. I'm guessing 8, so this would mean that 1 oz = 1 egg white.

What's an ounce? Well, two (measuring) tablespoons or 1/8 cup.
