I like to eat salads for lunch,is there anyway to just have a salad for lunch and be safe? I've never seemed to be bothered by lettuce.

You may not be bothered by lettuce at the time you eat it, but may be paying the price later. There's often a delayed reaction in IBS. I would strongly suggest having some soluble fiber like bread first if you're determined to keep eating salad. Also, fat free dressing is a must.

Carolina, are we talking a "big salad" (e.g., main meal, by itself, with lots of stuff in it)? Or is this a small dinner salad that accompanies the main meal? There's a big difference.

I LOVE salad (main meal salad, with nothing else) -- and in fact have been craving it lately -- but there's no way I can have it. Even if I have a soluble fiber WITH it or BEFORE it, I'll get the infamous cramps and D.

It's taken me a long time to get stable, and I don't want to risk it. That's why I haven't even tried yet to do a small side-dish salad. The idea is that we can possibly tolerate a side-dish salad if we have it at the end of the meal after a good soluble fiber base.

I'm just too scared.....
