Hi JuLee

I can relate. I was on the South Beach Diet and lost 15 lbs when I started having tummy problems and switched to Heather's Diet. Turns out I had gastritis on top of the IBS. I lost about 12 lbs in a month (from being so sick I couldn't eat).

I am now eating normal portions and basically following Heather's diet. The weight has not come back on (woohoo!) probably because this diet is low in fat. I have oatmeal (and sometimes fresh carrot juice) for breakfast every morning, banana for snack, a sandwich and maybe applesauce or sweet potato for lunch, soymilk and something sweet for an afternoon snack , and dinner is usually rice, cooked veggie and chicken or fish. I am slowly adding more veggies to my diet and just started working out on my treadmill yesterday.

As long as you don't go crazy with your portions and the sweets, I think you'll do great!

best to you and your health
Janet

Yep, carbs ain't bad.
In addition to WW, over here in the UK we have another v big slimming club called Slimming World. Instead of counting points for everything you eat, you only count up the number of 'sins' you eat each day on top of your freely allowed foods. (You can do the odd 'red' day - mostly protein) but are supposed to base the diet on their 'green' days - yep, you guessed it - carb based...

On a green day, you can eat UNLIMITED amounts of carbs like potatoes, pasta, rice etc, with most fruits and veggies and very small controlled portions of low fat healthy proteins. You then count x amount of sins (higher fat/sugar/treat foods). The diet is based on satisfaction of hunger - you can only eat so many carbs before feeling full, the fruits and veggies and small proteins have to be added for interest and to help that full feeling last for longer. The magazines and papers are full of success stories showing how people of all shapes and sizes have trimmed down drastically on these diets.

This isn't an advert for Slimming World, by the way, it's just to show that there is a life and a way beyond high protein diets.

Of course, we're all different. I can't eat just carbs without getting very hungry, so I make sure I eat plenty of fruit and veggies and try to get some decent protein at each meal to keep me feeling satisfied. But carbs form the basis of my diet.

Hi Julee,

I've been mostly eating carbs for several years now as the "green" veggies don't agree with me and I am UNDERweight so I guess it's all in the amounts of carbs you consume. I eat small portions of everything for meals as eating a large meal can get my IBS flaring up. I'm pretty new to the board so haven't tried blending my Green veggies yet the way Heather does but hope to get the nerve to try that soon. I had a flare up last week so it usually takes me a couple of weeks to try something daring again.
