Phew, seems like a long time since I last posted my sorry woes on here. Taken a little break (been busy at work and stuff) and concentrating on the IBS hypnosis which I'm about half way through and it seems to be helping.

It's taken a looooong time for me, but this diet is finally starting to work. It seems that my occasional cheats that I could once get away with can no longer be done. After eating a handful of fries one evening, followed up with a breakfast cereal that must have been too high in insoluble, I had the worst bowel spasms in years - so bad that (how can I put this???) it left me feeling bruised - I could barely sit down or stand up all the next day. So thanks to my body for that wake up call: I realised I was gonna have to be far more strict with myself.

I'm eating much more soluble fibre and feeling MUCH better. What a relief. I had to cut out the SF supplement because I felt it was a bit too much for me to cope with and I seem to be doing very well without it, just by concentrating on eating high soluble fibre foods.

For me, varying the types of SF foods I eat through the day seems to work best. I think before I was just supplementing my normal diet with extra SF snacks and pre-meals, mostly of the same stuff. Perhaps the variety is key. The good news is I can now eat porridge oats for breakfast and I even seem to be able to tolerate small amounts of wheat which I struggled with before, so that's making life a little easier.

I have been trying to keep up with the boards from time to time, hope I'll have more time to post too in future.

Big smile
Shells

Shells, I'm so glad you're getting things figured out for yourself. I'm sorry it took such a horrible attack to make it happen, but I guess that's the way things go sometimes. Good for you for making an effort to eat more soluble fiber. I try to get a ton of that, too, and it really helps. And how exciting that you're able to eat some wheat again! That must be a great feeling. Thanks for the update!

By the way, I'm so glad the hypno is working for you! I'm about half way through, too, and it seems to be making a big difference. Not necessarily in the way I FEEL, but I've been able to get myself to go out to dinner a couple of times in the past few weeks, whereas before the hypno I had been afraid to eat out and hadn't in a long time. It's amazing how something so seemingly simple could be so powerful. I can't wait to see how we're both doing by the time we finish the tapes!
