Well.............
Gee what can I say. Still a little frustrated. I was told not to go off the dicetel yet it is too soon to know if it is helping takes about 4 wks. Been given prevacid. Now I went to the pharmacy and the girl I spoke to(pharmacist) was really helpful to explain things more to me. Because I have/had GERD and so much acid production in my stomach..that turns around and causes/enables the gas and bloating. She told me NOT to drink tea in the am on a empty stomach, eat first then drink some tea. She also told me to stay away from peppermint tea. So more advice and not feeling so "helped" yet I will trudge along. The doctor said it is a matter of finding out which drug that is available out there is the one that will work for me. So on I go. I will prevail and I won't give up.

Glad you got it over with and so happy the pharmacist was able to help you...

If you can't take the peppermint tea, try fennel! I love it (and the peppermint really bothered me.) No worries at all with the fennel unless you don't like the taste of fennel (light anise/black licorice flavor--- I didn't think I liked it but got used to it quite quickly.)

Good luck.

Shirl,
Well, at least it sounds like you're on the right track toward solving the mystery of your ailments. Sometimes, it takes awhile before it all gets figured out and the puzzle pieces fit right! How fortunate to have such a knowledgeable pharmacist, too! Glad you're not giving up!

Well this all sounds positive to me. Doesn't it to you, Shirl? You sound reserved; were you expecting more? Are you disappointed?

Sometimes my tea in the morning gives me a little indigestion. I switched to Ginger Aid tea, which I like quite well, and it doesn't give me any indigestion at all. Good on the tummy. Actually, I remember one morning I had it in the car with me, and I was glad I did, because as I was driving I felt the rumblings of slight cramps coming on. The tea did the trick, took it away completely.

Sorry, Shirl, I didn't mean to turn it on me. I don't know anything about Dicetel or Prevacid, so I can't comment. I have to say, though, that I love your pharmacist. Wonder if she would like a job as a GI?

Don't let up on your doc; if the Dicetel or Prevacid don't work, HOUND HIM. We'll check back with you to make sure you do, Girlfriend!

Shirl, I'm sorry your doc wasn't able to tell you more. Believe me, I understand what an annoyingly slow process it is to figure out what's bothering you and what you can do about it. I've officially had IBS for well over a year now, and I'm still experimenting because nothing has totally relieved my symptoms yet. Just know that you're not alone and that there are always other things to try. I truly believe that eventually you'll find something that makes you feel better. Just hang in there!

Hey there, that doesn't sound too bad! It does just take ages to work out which meds work for you - stick at it girlfriend!

Btw, with GERDS, avoid peppermint and ginger. I find Chamomile helps the GERDS as well as my tummy sometimes. But fennel is AMAZING for bloating.

And don't drink ANYTHING fast with GERDS - especially on an empty tummy.

So did the doc say that the upper ab pain, gas and bloating was part of GERDs/IBS?

Hi Janet,
Actually ALL of this agonizing stuff i am going through is good ol IBS. Right now and what he said is, it is trial and error to find the right thing that works for me as an indivual, no 2 pple are the same. when I went to the drugstore to get my prevecid I aksed the girl "Is previced not for heartburn"? She told me yes..... BUT the heartburn, in turn enables or what ever u wanna call it the gas and bloating, which I been suffering from. it is all connected. Now she did tell me some interesting things such as: DO NOT drink tea peppermint or others in the morning on a empty stomach. Eat first (i.e. hot oatmeal) which works fine I take my prevecid 1st. Then after I eat have some tea. Now she also said to be very careful cutting too many things outta my diet too. She was very helpful and pulled out a huge book they have on hand on IBS. so I found out the dicetel u have to give it about 4 wks to see any change, almost any drug give or take a bit she said needs that long to really show u what it will do for u. I just started the prevecid so we will see what the 2 of them do.
