I just had to have some jellybeans the other day (one of my biggest downfalls:o) and I notice on the ingredients, the first one listed was fructose. Are fructose and High fructose corn syrup the same? If not, how is plain fructose generally tolerated?

No, fructose and HFCS aren't exactly the same. Fructose is the sugar naturally found in fruits, while HFCS is a synthetic sweetener that's pumped full of fructose. Fructose is found in fruits and is especially prevalent in fruit juices, which is why many of us aren't able to drink much of them. But when it's in with other ingredients, such as candies and sweets, it doesn't seem to be much of a problem. HFCS, on the other hand, does bother many people whenever it's found in a product. Some of us seem to be more sensative to it than others. Your jelly beans with fructose should be fine (I eat them), but just in case you might not want to eat them on an empty stomach.

The amount of fructose of HFCS I eat is directly proportional to how much gas I get. I am not the only one that is affected this way either. Keep a food diary and see how you do with it.

Thanks for the input. That clears it up- and since you said I should be able to eat my jellybeans, I love the response!
Have a great day,

Here is a little more info on fructose. You'll be suprised most of it comes from corn starch. web page

However, not surprising since most HFCS comes from corn as well.

HFCS is lethal to some of us ...I'm one, but a little fructose, especially if a safe sugar is listed first is no problem.
