Well, I've been away from teh board for a week or so b/c I've been trying to find drs. and figure out my deal. Anyways I found an internist and she was very nice. she rec. I have an upper GI just to be safe and ran blood for celiac althought she didn't think I have. She also rec. a GI who she had rave reviews about. I also had gotten a rec. on Mon. from my CNM.
So i called and couldn't get in till May from teh dr. the CNM suggested but when i called for the other GI yesterday they had an opening this morning. Get ready for this...
he was terrible. He was interrupted in the middle of us talking and then told me to get undressed and he came back and examined me. then when I got dressed he came to talk and tell me things and in teh middle I interrupted to tell him all i've tried and he got annoyed and said " you didn't tell me this before." I was so pissed and I said right back " you didn't let me you walked out!" I used to be embarassed and shy with drs. now I don't give a ____.!! Anyays he told me to test to see if I'm lactose intolerance by drinking two glasses of milk in the morning. If i get diarrhea gas or pain then i'm LI!!! How do you lik that!!! So what do you think should I do this. I told him i don't eat dairy now so why does it matter he just said it would be good nutrition for me. Other than that he was worthless. He did say he would check my blood work from the other dr. but doesn't think celiac b/c I dn't have diarrhea. What is with drs. I didn't even get a chance to voice my concerns and ask my questions. One more thing I'm so sorry this is long.
Has anyone noticed that when they eat more they are better? I know that sounds crazy but I was recently told to gain weight and the few days hta I ate more I felt better. Is it possible to not have enought in you for your digestive systme to work properly? I wante to ask the dr. this today but well ...!! thanks for listening sorry to go on but I couldn't believe my experience (well, actually i'm not surprised)!!! I hpoe everyone is feeling well! Oh, today is day 27 for the hypno tapes!

What a jerk! They do have a real lactose intolerant test, and I've never heard it involving drink 2 glasses of milk and see what happens! I wonder if the fact he had an appt. sooner was any indication of how great he is(n't).
Anyway, I'm sorry you had such a rotten experience. Personally, if it were me, I'd find another GI. I know it's such a pain in the butt, but once you find a decent one, it makes it seem worthwhile.
I feel yucky when I don't eat enough (as in letting myself get too hungry) or when I eat too much. Maybe you just hadn't been eating enough? I'm not sure on that one, but I'm glad you are feeling better.
Congrats on the hypno too! How do you like it so far?

Sorry you had such a bad experience! I would def. NOT go back to him! I used to go all the time without eating and skipped meals all the time to avoid any chance of attacks. Well I was too darn skinny and was so tired of feeling hungry from skipping lunch at work. Once I started eating more I felt soooo much better. Even if I just have a small meal or some snacks it's way better on my stomach then nothing at all. Sometimes I still feel panicky or anxious about eating and I think well what if I get sick? I just take my chances and 95% of the time I have no attacks after eating so I must be doing something right! I have to play the mental game and listen to my stomach when it tells me it's veryyyy hungry!!!
P.S. I'm glad when people voice their experiences when they go to the doctor. This way other people know what to do if they get in that situation with a jerk of a doctor!

CHANGE DOCTORS! This is deplorable! This guy is a GI?! No GI worth a grain of salt would tell anyone with IBS to drink milk, and then say it's "good nutrition." My GI, although a total jerk, did tell me to cut out all dairy. That's about all he told me, though -- and then showed me the door -- but it was made perfectly clear to me: NO DAIRY!
You were treated horribly by a professional who was paid for his services, and he provided LOUSY services. Do all GIs go to the same School for Dorks?
On Monday I'd call the internist and very calmly, very politely, let her know what a jerk you were subjected to -- so she won't ever refer anyone else to the bas----! Knowing what a lousy experience you had, I'm sure she'll give you a better referral -- and I'd insist on it. You deserve nothing less.

This is the fourth GI I have been to! I have an appointment with teh DR that my CNM suggested but not till May I guess I will keep it and see! My husband thinks I just know to much already from this board and the books and that no one can help! I don't know. The problem is I woke up with a bad stomach which makes me angry and frustrated which makes me upset and makes me think of all other things that are bothering me which makes stomach bad... a vicious cycle. I just can't live like this it runs my life. I'm waiting to hear back about the celiac but both drs. dont think I have it! I almost wish I did b/c they say if you eat right with that disease you feel fine. It's better than I am now! No matter how good I am (and I am ) I'm screwed! sorry again to blab and thanks again.

Hey Mags,
I don't know how I feel about the hypno. so far, I don't think I see any changes. When I get upset I try to think of it and it reminds me to try and relax. Or if i'm upset I'll go do my tape to calm down. The thing is I can't get through it with out falling asleep I know this is OK but everytime? And when I wake up I feel tired and disoriented sort of!!
so how is it working for you second time around? did you notice sig. diff. from teh first time I know you suggested this! did you get your hear done? I hope so b/c at least if you feel bad you should look good right!!

rlan - You are still really early in the hypno, so it's no surprise you haven't noticed anything major yet. I can't stay awake through them either, so don't feel bad. I know it's OK to fall asleep too, but I still have this nagging feeling like it would work better if I didn't, but then I think how well it has worked and then I just go with the flow! LOL I'm sure that made perfect sense, didn't it?
I noticed a significant difference the first time around. I posted about parcopresis ( http://home.freeuk.net/parcopresis/ ) in my "Second Round" post. This is more like what I'm dealing with, but I'm doing the IBS hypno anyway. I think for me they are related. I haven't noticed anything yet on my second round, but I'm still really early too. I think a lot of the "venting" on the hypno board REALLY helped me.
I got my hair done last Friday, and I love it! It's very subtle though, but I can tell. It just brightened up my natural color. So, I do look good, even when I feel bad! LOL Thanks for asking.
Don't forget to keep me posted on how you make out with your hypno.

I had that test. I had to drink something, not milk but with lactose in it. I sat in the hospital right waiting room next to the bathroom and made sure to bring a book as I KNEW I'd be in the bathroom dying and nothing happened. I KNOW I'm lactose intollerant!!! Made me so mad.

Hi. I am sorry that you have a jerk of a doctor. My former GI doctor told me to take Imodium & eat whatever & just deal with the diaherra. Plus, she did not even diagnos me with IBS. I found a wonderful GI doctor that understood me & explained things to me at the following website: www.acg.gi.org. This website has doctors listed from all over the US. If you go to the website, click on the IBS icon on the right-hand side. The doctor I went to see told me that "he wished that he could give me an antibiotic to clear my IBS up, but he couldn't". There are kind and compassionate doctors out there.
Good luck to you. Daisy
