I have just read Heather's books and I have some questions as for the soy margarine. I was comparing it to Country Crock Spread and the Total Fat is 11g were Country is 7g. Arent we suppose to be eating less fat? Also, I am getting leg cramps, I am following the diet at home but not at work, pretty much still not eating anything until I get home, still kinda scared of having an attack at work. I am trying to drink my water but I am only at 32 ounces and I just started drinking peppermint tea also. Any suggestions? Thanks, BJ

You need to avoid dairy, that is why you should eat soy margarine instead of Country crock. Don't know about the leg cramps. You do need to try to eat at work. Helps keep you stable.

marjo is right!! You have to try eating at work....I know sometimes it can be a real scary thought....but in the long run you'll feel much better!! Your stomach must be so empty at the end of your work day that it's gonna be so much more sensitive to anything you put in it in the evening. try eating things like pasta, rice, bread, etc at work if possible...those are all very safe foods....snack on rice cakes, graham crackers, etc. You'll start to feel much better...I'm sure of it!!

I agree, you really should eat at work! I bet you'll actually feel BETTER of you do... I know my IBS is worse if I let my stomach get too empty. You could always bake up some safe quick breads or muffins and bring those along for snacks, and turkey sandwiches are always a completely safe lunch for me. Please try to eat something!
I don't know too much about soy margarine, but I know the reason Heather promotes it is because it's non-hydrogenated, which makes it better for your heart in the long run. Honestly, I use Country Crock (which is safe b/c it's dairy-free) and Fleischmanns also, although I've been meaning to pick up some soy margarine. Maybe soy margarines are like regular margarines and some are lower in calories and than others... it might be worth looking into!

1) Soy margarine. I know nothing about this.
2) Leg cramps: my best friend SWEARS by bananas as a cure for this.
3) I'm going to say what everyone else is saying: you've got to eat during the day, hon, even if you're scared. You probably remember from reading about Heather's diet that's it's important to eat frequently, in small amounts... In fact, that's her 6TH COMMANDMENT! (The 10 Commandments of Eating for IBS) You need to keep your intestines nice and full of soluble fiber... so MANJA!
You say you're following the diet on the weekends, right? If you're following it to the letter and it's helping, then you're not noticing symptoms after you eat on Sat. and Sun., I hope? That should help you gain confidence in eating at work. Why should it be any different!? Try eating really safe foods only at work, to start. Just so you can prove to yourself that it can be done. Go to your what to eat when you can't eat anything standbys. They're proved safe! And keep drinking that peppermint tea!

I have been having a hard time finding a soy butter or margarine. My local stores only have organic butter, and while they have soy cheese, milks and ice creams, no butter or marjarine So, I plan to scoure some health food stores when I'm off work this weekend, but in the meantime...are there better margarines than others? I'm so useless in the kitchen but I was just looking at my margarine and it doesn't look like it contains any dairy. here's the ingredients: Canola and/or/ soybean oil, hydrogenated soybean oil, water, salt, whey powder, soy lecithin, sodium benzoate, monoglycerides, artificial flavor, vitamin a, plamitate, vitamin d3, beta carotene, citric acid. Maybe I'm dumb and just missing something, but I dont' see any dairy??? Kelly

whey powder
whey is a milk product.
I'm not that knowlegeable about margarine, but what's the fat content? Is that (aside from the dairy aspects) one of the reasons it's avoided?
