Thanks so much for the advice. Does soy cause the D to get worse? I've never used anything with soy in it, but someone I know said it caused D. Is that true? I've always been afraid to try it b/c of that. I am just getting over some horrible stomach flu that cause me to lose 6 more pounds after losing 10 back in the fall when my IBS got bad again. I don't want anything that is going to cause cramps or D at this point. Any advice?

Hi! It's my understanding that with soy you need to start with small amounts until your body gets used to it.
Hope that helps!

Some find that they are allergic to soy in which case it's obvious and they avoid it. Most people tolerate it just fine.

Wow. You put me in lofty company with Heather!
I'll answer to the best of my knowledge:
It is my understanding that soy proteins can be difficult for some to digest if they aren't used to it (though I suppose there are people out there that just can't tolerate it at all). I think it's the enzymes needed to break them down that are lacking or maybe just slacking! But if you work into it at a slower pace, your body learns how to deal with it. I know that's not the fancy scientific version, but I'm sleepy!
Here's the real-life illustration. I got all gung-ho about soy a while back and started drinking soy milk, adding it to some foods, eating soy yogurt, and cooking with soy. Not tons, but I hadn't had much in my diet before then. THAT caused a little bit of a D phase. I panicked! But then I read about how people kind of have to acclimate to soy... And daggone it! I was not going to cut yet another thing out of my diet! So I took a deep breath and a little break from the soy. Went back to What to Eat When You Can't Eat Anything. After about 2 days, I started adding the soy back in more slowly.
Now I have soy in my smoothie and throughout the day (milk, tofu, yogurt--- I eat it all!). It didn't take long for my body to catch up with my tastebuds!
So I wouldn't worry too too much. Just take it slow and see how it goes. If your stomach loop-de-loops, back it down a bit (maybe half a dose of the protein powder for the first few days?)...
Please let me know how it works out if you decide to try it!

Get going on the soy. I love the stuff - couldn't live without it - but I've been drinking it for about 10 years now! If you don't go over-the-top you should be fine. And if you're anything like I was, it'll take a while to get used to the taste anyway.
