Hello. I'm new here, and I wanted to tell my story. I know it doesn't exactly fit under the category "eating for IBS," though. I'm not certain I have IBS, but I think so. A few things about my case are atypical. First, my main problem is gas. I swear, sometimes I think I "leak" a terrible smell, even though I can't feel myself passing gas. My husband says it is all in my head, but I think there must be something wrong with his olfactory senses.
Also, I rarely have the kind of pain I've heard described here. I did have a bad episode 2 days ago where I was cramping on the toilet, and I broke out in a sweat and almost vomited. But those episodes are rare. Maybe twice a year. The rest of the time I just get aches and twinges.
I do have alternating bouts of diarrhea and constipation. Eating at a restaurant really sets me off. But I consider myself constipated if I can't go every day.
Does this sounds like IBS?

You really need to get a diagnosis from a doctor! There are a lot of other problems that have similar symptoms, so it's the only way to know for sure. That said, I'm also C and get those occassional attacks where I sweat and feel like I'm going to die, so I know just how agonizing that can be. Honestly, though, since starting this diet I get them less and less and for the most part the contipation isn't as bad as it used to be. Give Heather's diet a try, I bet it will do wonders for you. Feel free to ask us any questions that come up.
And get to the doctor!
