Hello, What is your most helpful rule about eating? For me, I would starve without rice and Pepperidge Farm sourdough bread.

Totally agree with that. My most helpful rule is frequent small meals or snacks.

I don't know what I'd do without my homemade muffins and quick breads. Those are my staple breakfast and snack foods!

I agree--I don't know what I'd do without rice! Also, putting pretzels into little baggies and keeping in them in purse, backpack, and car. I'd keep them in my study carrel too if food was allowed in the library!

What do you use as oil and/or egg alternatives in your quick breads?

Jamaxx, were you addressing this to anyone, or to Kree?
Canola oil is the oil of choice, but vegetable oil is fine. "Egg Beaters" is the egg alternative, or just the whites of fresh eggs -- toss the yolks (ew).

Thanks. I am very new at this and need all the help I can get. I am IBS-D and am trying to find alternatives to the pretzels and crackers I have been living on!

I now look forward to breakfast since I found Eggbeaters. I love having them for breakfast and being able to make french toast again.
I also can't live with my little baggies filled with cereal I take with me wherever I go!

Yep, Egg Beaters are a lifesaver. I use them in everything now, and even make scrambled eggs out of them.
I do use canola oil in my breads and muffins, but if it's not already an IBS friendly recipe I usually have to substitute unsweetened applesauce in place of some of the oil, since the fat in the oil can be a trigger. Heather taught me a great rule of thumb... it's okay to have up to 1/4 cup of oil per loaf of bread/typical batch of muffins, but anything over that and it's best to make up the rest with the applesauce!

I wouldn't go anywhere without rice krispie treats (homeade or store-bought), some homeade honey chex mix and/or those little berry flavored applesauce cups by Motts! kelly

Don't know why I didn't reply the other day. Odd.
Anyway, my best rule is that SUSHI IS SAFE! (at least, is is for me!)
That's great news, 'cause all of the semi-urban places I've been have somewhere to go get some sushi. Since I don't do wheat, I am even more limited than I had been! To know that there's sushi out there is reassuring. (However, my brother and his family live in the country. I love the country. Absolutely love it. But they look at you like you're nuts if you ask for a sushi place out there! It may keep me from moving somewhere rural like I had always planned.... Or I'll have to learn to make sushi! )
