Hi everyone, have not posted in a while. I have not had D or C recently, but my bloating and gas has been terrible for 3 days. I am at work and it's just horrible. I have to keep spraying Febreeze. I have been drining fennel and slippery elm. What else can I do? What should I eat/not eat? I need it to stop ASAP! Thanks so much.

You're not eating anything like beans, are you? Just a thought. Maybe wheat is giving you gas - my Gran had this and it drove her spare ( she's a prude!). I'm sure she's got mild IBS.

I wish I could help you. I wish I could help ME. If you find a cure, let me know!
Gas-X helps me on a short-term basis for immediate temporary relief, but I'm always blowing and can never seem to nail down the culprit (except for the usual beans, and now apparently turkey sausage as well -- and on those occasions I take Beano).
Thankfully, I don't work -- I don't know how you guys do it, frankly. When I was working, my office was very close to the front door so I was constantly running outside to blow. Unfortunately, after awhile the office got onto me and I had to explain myself.
I'm sorry I can't be of more help to you. But I will definitely follow this thread to see what others can suggest.

No, no beans. Last night I ate chicken made with seasame oil, I am sure that did it. But why I am still like this today when so far today I only ate home-made banana bread, 1/2 banana, oatmeal, a glass of water, 2 glasses of fennel/slippery elm tea, 1 tbsp. acacia and my probiotic. A usual moring (consumed over 4 hours). I see my GI twice a year and I always ask him the same thing, is there anything for my worst problem, which is the gas and bloating? The answer is always no. Beleive it or not, Gas-X does not even work for me. Neither does beano before a meal, that's how bad it is! But then one day I can have a bowl of bean chili and just have a little gas but mostly be fine. It's always different.

Hey! You just reminded me -- I had forgotten -- bananas ALWAYS make me fart! I forgot all about that -- they always have, even before I got IBS. Wow, isn't that odd how someone will say something and all of a sudden a light goes on in your head?
Unfortunately it doesn't happen to me often enough .....

I have the same problem and I found this amazing tea. Depending how bad the gas is I can take up to three cups and the gas disappears. I highly recommend it.
go to www.florahealth.com you need to click on the Canada icon. click on the button that says "search products by health condition" then click on colic, stomach upset and under herbs click on Flora stomach tea. You can also contact them or even ask where it is sold. Please tell me if you find it

I have a similar problem, and nothing seems to help, the bloating is so bad some days I can't even get dressed and feel like I'm pregnant. Gas-X and Ovol don't help me either. I haven't tried this yet, but my Dad was telling me that when I was little I had horrible gas and that they used to give me somethign called gripe water, and it really helped. Now, I believe it's mostly for babies, but if it helped then, I don't really see why it wouldn't help know. Just a thought. Good luck!

Yeah, bananas upset my stomach, too. And my mom's and my mother-in-law's.

Okay, I'll try anything. I know what you mean, sometimes my tummy is so bloated that I feel I should be giving birth to something. I usually have to wear loose clothing and sometimes even sweatpants to work!

Oatmeal bothers me sometimes! Have you ever noticed that to make you gassy before? Also, how long have you been on the acacia, and have you recently increased your dose? That made me very gassy when I was on it. Just some thoughts! I hope it comes out soon!

The truth is everyone is different. I suggest keeping a food diary. I used to suffer from such bad gas. Now when I get it it's usually because I fell off the wagon. Granted my new diet is VERY limited, but it has helped a lot! Firstly, I eliminated whole wheat products. Then I realized fructose is a big problem, so I am careful when I eat that. Especially important, I cannot eat sulphur-containing foods like eggs, garlic, or onions, or I am sure to suffer from tons of really smelly gas! I usually look to the day before to find an offending food, since it usually takes quite some time for food to make it to the large intestine where things are fermented. Giid luck with it all!

Gripe water is a oil type water that is used primarily to treat upset stomachs and colic in babies. My parents actually used to give it to me alot when I was younger because I had such bad gas and they said it really helped me. So today, I picked some up and I figure I'll try it...it has fennel oil and sodium bicarbonate in it. Kelly

The only two products that I use are beano, gas x and phazyme. I heard charcoal caps work too but havne't tried them. We should start our own "gas products" company and make a fortune.

I drink a TON of fennel tea, take probiotics, Acacia fiber (though only 1 tsp per day right now), and have been okay for a week, but today I have the WORST GAS EVER and no amount of fennel tea is helping. I bought the Gas-X extra strength, and it has been two hours, I took the maximum dose, and NOTHING. All I've been doing is spraying Airwick all day. No end in sight. Does this really work? I mean, I drink both fennel and peppermint tea, but what is the ingredient in it besides those that really does it for you? Please let me know. I have got to do something!

I second the bananas! I was eating one a day for a few weeks and was having such bad gas within a few hours. I just eliminated that from my diet and I seem to be feeling better. It's still to early to tell if that was the problem but I couldn't think of anything else different I was doing. I also just increased my acidopholus to max dosage (according to the bottle). I wish they made prescription strength anti - gas meds. Like for those with really stinky problems you could pull out the "big guns". Ha ha I have to laugh or I just might cry about my stomach problems.

Have you ever tried a product called Mintacin? It is enteric-coated and combines Simethicone and Peppermint Oil. It works very well for me; and there is little to no peppermint "aftertaste".

Yeah, the acacia just didn't seem to work out for me. I just felt uncomfortable every single night. So I went back to my Fiber Choice, which is supposed to be bad but doesn't bother me as much as the acacia seemed to. I plan on giving it a second chance soon, I just wanted to give my body a rest first so it would be a fair test. Last time I started out at 4 g, since that's where I am in my Fiber Choice, but next time I might start out with less. Are you still having trouble with it?

OH, can I relate! My families new nick name for me is STINKY BUTT! Good thing they love me!
Can't offer to much advice for I haven't found too much to help me! Digestive enzymes baught at your local health food store help some. Lighting matches right after you fart help to take the stink out of the air, something about the sulfur?! It does work much better than airfreshner!

Yeah, lighting matches is a trick my husband taught me over 20 years ago. Definitely clears the air like nothing else. Of course then people might think you're sneakin' a smoke in the bathroom!!

Kree - when you start back slowly, you could probably stay on the Fiber Choice at the same time. Just cut back on the FC, and add in a little acacia. Maybe that will help you adjust?
