Hi Susie. I've heard varying things about goat's milk. Some sources said it was okay for lactose intolerant people, while others said it still contained lactose, just in a lesser amount, so it wasn't safe. I haven't ventured to try it because it sounds a little risky to me!
You can probably find almond milk at any natural foods store. I know my grocery store also has it in their natural foods section. Have you checked wherever you buy soy or rice milk?

I haven't tried it. After reading the arguments against cow milk, I'm reluctant to drink any animal milk. According to some sources, the enzymes responsible for milk digestion decrease at around 3 years old. So it sounds like nature intended us to be weaned from milk. Maybe there's more to it, but I'm happy with soy milk. I'd also like to try almond milk and rice milk.

Hey there.
Goat's milk is better tolerated than cow's milk by most (non-IBS) people, but I'd say IBSers should stay away from it.

Thanks for the advice about the goats milk. That's enough for me to stay away from it. I think I will try rice milk next, I just can't swallow soy milk.

Rice milk does have a lot milder flavor than soy milk does, so hopefully you'll like it more. My mom hates my soy milk, but she's actually started drinking rice milk now, so that should tell you something!

I buy my almond milk at the grocery store. Most stores seem to carry it. I usually don't find it in the refrigerator section though. It's where they have the diet and health foods. I use all kinds of milk except for soy and can't stand the taste of any of them. I have to have it for my smoothies though and I find almond milk works great and has a nice flavor for the smoothies.

Out of all the dairy (that we now can't have ) my absolute fav is goat's milk. I used to buy it, fresh out of the goat, from a neighbor that raised milk goats. It was shear heaven to me.
But alas now, like you, I have to settle for all the subs even though none of them measure up. I suppose they will suffice ...plus, it's not the end of the world if I don't get any more goat's milk, ever.

I just miss feta cheese. There's nothing like a good Greek salad topped with lots of feta. Oh wait... I couldn't even have more than a couple bites of the salad anymore anyway, so what's a little cheese? Sigh.
