For those with "D", do you ever have this ...(m)

sometimes I will go about 3 or 4 times in the am but it's not D, but just a lot of it! I'll have the lower cramping feeling with it. I do take alot of the soluble fiber so would this be D normally but b/c of the fiber it's regular. I wonder sometimes where it all comes from. I have a hard time keeping weight on b/c of my system being so fast and furious. I may discuss this with my gastro doctor. Is there anything to keep your parts from spasms so it doesn't react so fast?

Thanks!
Sandy

Hi Sandy,

I'm a "D" and I have morning spasms too when I go a lot -- and no it's not "D". You described it well.

I just assume it's a function -- oops, I gotta go -- wait a minute --

Okay, I'm back. Where was I? Oh yeah, it's a function. I'm kinda glad I do this every morning, aren't you? I mean, wouldn't it be awful to have "C" and have it all bottled up inside and not be able to get it all out?

Do the spasms go away after you "go"? That's another issue. That used to happen to me a lot, but it was because I was drinking coffee at the time. Duh. Now they go away after I'm all cleaned out, which occurs right away as soon as I wake up. Uh oh -- I have to go again......

Whew. Now, where was I? Oh -- about the weight issue. So how come I'm not losing weight, yet you are having a hard time keeping it on? What's wrong with this picture?

One last question for you: do the spasms wake you up in the morning? I think I dream that I'm having cramps, and I wake up in a pool of sweat -- so I get up, turn on the computer, start the water to boil for my tea, and bingo bango I have to begin "going" -- does this happen to you?

Uh-oh! There it is again! I have to go --

Bev

Hi Bev,

Yup I'm glad I don't get bottled up. If I only go once a day, ( like most normal people) I'd feel I was C! I've always had a fast system but it wasn't until about a year ago, I started having symptoms of IBS. I don't miss the explosive stuff that's for sure!

The spasms pretty much stop after I go. If I'm anxious about something, then they will be pretty much all day long. That's when I take the pill the doctor prescribed that pretty much stops everything in its tracks. I save those for when I really need to function away from a bathroom like our upcoming trip to NYC!

The weight loss? Well I've always been thin, I think that's genetics but the IBS makes it even more so!

Have a good day!
Sandy

PS and yes I've dreamed about spasms and had to go when I woke!

It sounds GREAT that you can go every morning! As a mostly IBS-Cer...I don't get to do that often enough (and when I do it's from hemorrhoids...PAIN-FUL!)

However, I was at the mall the other night with D! My hubby and I were in Lord and Taylor and it just hit me out of nowhere. I had to go NOW! I wasn't sure I would make it to the bathroom! I did...by a hair...

I think they're both just AWFUL! But, in a lot of ways, I think the uncertainty of when it's gonna hit is the worst of all. At least with C it doesn't keep you close to the loo wherever you go! (But I gotta say, that clogged up feeling is NOT FUN...to say the least).

Hmm...in regards to the weight Q...Bev, do you get enough water? How much sodium you get a day? If you're losing from D and you're getting too much sodium and not enough water...you might be retaining water...and having a "water weight gain". I also find if I eat too much, even if I am in the midst of D, I still don't lose weight. (I can even gain). I'm not sure how this works (maybe because for me it's a combo of D and C?) Also, do you get enough exercise?

I think it may also have a lot to do with metabolism. I have a SLOW metabolism (at least that's my theory!) and this is why I find I can eat very little and gain (it may also be because I'm so backed up all the time!)

*phew* Too many theories, dontcha think?

Hope I gave you something useful to think about...if not, thanks for listening anyway

*hugs*

I've had this too...mostly with vomiting and with urinating. I also used to have dreams that I was falling when I was a kid and I woke up on the floor. I wonder if this is our subconscious and conscious minds merging? Fascinating!

This is totaly a shot in the dark...but have you tried deep breathing at the onset of cramping? I did this the other night in the mall when I NEEDED the loo RIGHT NOW and it saved me from, well, not making it to the bathroom in time!

Have you considered the hypno tapes? One of the sessions actually works directly with how fast/slow your system is. It's really neat!

Wish I knew of more ideas...if I think of any I'll let you know!

*hugs*

Hi.

I have this issue, too. Complete with cramping and all. It's definitely not "D" but it's not what it used to be! Wait! That's kinda good!

Bad= it's not what it used to be PRE-IBS.

Good= it's not what it used to be with IBS but PRE- Eating For IBS, when it was a BAD SCENE. (Ok... that was mostly because of the morning cups of coffee! )

As for the spasms, there's nothing that I've found except my golden pills: Hycosamine. But I only use them when I'm in an emergency situation. I have D and C, so I can't use them unless the D is really bad (mostly painful cramping and urgency) or it stops things so well that I swing into C! Learned that the hard way!

Ruchie,

I do the same thing! I feel like I'm doing Lamaze sometimes, when the pain is really bad!

I'm wondering if the morning BM's you're all experiencing are loose stools? Not quite a regular BM, but not D either...somewhere in-between? Just curious...thanks!

I'm glad this works for someone else
