What to eat when you REALLY can't eat ANYTHING???

Right now, I'm in the middle of waiting for test results ... and waiting to see how many more tests I'm going to have to have ... But, I'm having a major problem.

...I literally cannot keep any food in my system. I spent the morning (from 5:45 - 8:45 am) throwing up about every 15 minutes. Then, spent the rest of the morning (til about noon) throwing up in the other direction. All I have been able to eat without getting sick for the past few days pretty much was on the "What you can eat when you can't eat anything" list ... but, now I can't even keep that stuff down (or up). I'm sipping peppermint tea, and that seems to be going okay ... but I can't live on tea forever. Any suggestions???

Hi Kali!

Are you sure you don't have a virus or anything?

Either way I would check with you doctor. You need to be really careful you don't get dehydrated. At this rate, you were pretty much spewing one way or the other for about 6 hours straight!

Please be careful, let you doc know what's going on, and let us know how you make out.

Yeah, Kali -- I'm with Mags on this. Please, call your doc.

Thanks Mags,

I'm to the point that all I can keep down is warm tea. The pain is a lot worse and I'm getting dizzy and stuff, so I called the doc just a few minutes ago, and they want me to come in first thing in the morning. They wanted to see me tonight, but I'm at work almost an hour away from their office, and they would be closed by the time I could get there. I'm really hoping that they'll find something to help! I'm getting to the point ... or am at the point that any test that they want to run I would be totally ready for. I just want the pain to go away.

Thank you for your thoughts and concern!

Thanks Mags!

Well, the doctor's appointment went okay, I guess. She says that my symptoms seem to be getting worse. But, she scheduled me for an abdominal CT scan on Friday and gave me a couple of medications, so I'm hoping that they'll find the cause of all of this. I was kind of discouraged, though, because she kept asking me over and over and over if this is related to my past history of anorexia nervosa (I've lost like 3 pounds in the past 5 days). I assured her that it wasn't ... Seriously, I could think of lots better ways than this to lose weight! I don't know if she believed me or not, but she scheduled me for the CT and depending on the results, possibly an upper and lower GI. I think that she was seriously trying to scare me with the GI stuff, because she kept repeating that they were "horrible" and that I "really don't want to have to have that done." I'm dreading the GIs, but just want them to find out what's wrong. They said that they'll have to set me up with a surgeon for the GIs, as the earliest that they're office could get me in with the hospital would be in the summer, but that the surgeon may be able to get me in sooner ... I seriously can't live like this 'til the summer!!

Again, thanks, and I hope that things are going well for you!!

Well, that's just awful! I can't believe she kept telling you how horrible they were! That just really pisses me off! OK - taking a deep breath here.....

OK. Even IF it was to do with your past history (and that's a BIG IF, because even I don't believe that you're doing it to lose weight, and I've never even met with you), I believe it's unethical to scare you with the procedures you'd have to undergo to get a proper diagnosis.

Is it possible you could try another doctor? You should be able to get the tests done sooner than summer.

I waited three years before I finally got any GI work done. I was so scared to get it done. Then, after it was over, I realized I should have just gone and gotten it over with a long time ago. I know you were worried about the tests. Trust me - you'll be fine. People get them done ALL the time and they survive.

Let us know how your CT goes on Friday. I'll be thinking of you.

Hi again, Mags!

Hope all is going well for you! Just wanted to give you an update ... I had the abdominal CT on Friday (I won't know results until this Thursday when I see my doc again). I had had a CT before with little to no problem, but this one was NOT fun!! I was able to keep down the contrast stuff that you have to drink ... barely. But, ended up having what they called a "mini-seizure" after the contrast that they have to inject you with. I'm doing okay now, but it was pretty scary!! I'm just hoping that they find out what's wrong ... soon!! The lady at my doctor's office told me last week that I'm probably going to have to see a surgeon if the CT doesn't show anything, because otherwise, I would have to wait to have the upper and lower GI until sometime this summer. So, we shall have to wait and see.

Take care!

Hi Kali!

Thanks for keeping me posted! I thought of you the other day and was wondering how you made out at your test, but forgot to post. I always think of these things at the most inconvenient times...driving to work, brushing my teeth, etc. lol

Anyway, glad to hear you are doing better now. I can't believe you had a mini-seizure! Have you been able to keep anything down yet?

Let me know how your results come out.

Dear Kahi,
I know how you feel. Did you call your doctor yet? When this starts to happen to me, I end up in the hospital for a few day. I can lose 10 lbs in one week if its really bad. Are you loosing weight too? If so thats not good, you can cause other problems too. Are you dehydrated? Please check with your doctors, whatever one you feel that you can talk too. Best of luck to you. And take care. Let me know how you are doing!!! Maybe we can help each other with this.
