Im dealing with alot of stress, even though some is good. I am paying for it in many ways. We are buying a house and my father in law is moving in with us. There is alot of stress in moving etc, but what bothers me is him living with us. I love him and get along with him but I get nervous because what if Im in pain with my stomach etc; I feel like i cant show my true feelings. I dont want him to think im a baby. I feel like if my hubby talks to him to tell him what I deal with he will understand and not make a big deal out of it. I need ways to relax. Ive been practicing on my breathing, and bought a yoga tape to start tomorrow, so we will see.

I find yoga helps, it is very relaxing! Have you tried meditation? I hear this is also relaxing, I have a book but haven't read it completely yet. I like to have a warm bath with a scented candle and cup of strong peppermint tea.

Hopefully your father in-law will come to understand what you are going through!

Good luck with the building! I always find reading relaxes me or going for a drive and listening to my music. I know when I need to stop and I just take my book and read even if it's only for 10-15 minutes. Going into the life of someone else takes me away from mine! I also like to exercise so that helps, the yoga should be great!

A Chill-Out Zone new

We're building a house too. Just got the foundation in, so we have a long way to go yet.

You need a place in your new home that is ALL YOURS, a chill-out zone where you can go and RELAX -- your own sanctuary. This is off limits to everyone else, especially your dad.

If you haven't checked out the hypno program, you should. It's incredible, and sure taught me how to relax! I got to the point where the minute I curled up in my recliner (in my own chill-out zone), plugged in the earphones, turned on the CD player, and heard Michael's voice, I could feel my whole body start to relax. Hubby told me just a month after doing the program that he'd noticed a big change in me, how much more relaxed I am and how I don't let things bother me so.

Check it out -- and give that "chill-out zone" some thought, okay?

Good luck with the house -- keep us posted on its progress.

I also enjoy my privacy especially when I am not feeling well! I always need a place to go away from everyone when I am having problems. A hot bath every night with a good book is something I look forward to every day to unwind from the day.

I will have my own room to do crafts and painting and its also my massage room (Im a massage therapist) You'd think I wouldn't have any stress problems being a massage therapist and all, but you'd be surprised at school where I graduated most people, were becoming therapist wrere trying to learn how to take care of themselves and to help others. Alot of us had problems. health and psycological. It's amazing. I will also have a big bedroom and bath with a jacuzzi tub and we will have a den and livingroom, the men will be in the den and if i want to watch something (I love HGTV) I will be able to go into the livingroom too do so. He and our son will be on one side of the house , me and hubby and my massage/craft room on the other.
I have done hypno twice already and am getting ready to start it again.
Sometimes I feel like crawling in a hole and never coming out. Im having to change my way of thinking AGAIN. I've been gradually slipping back into a negative pattern, like I was when I had really bad panic attacks and had to do all this. This time the stress is causing my stomach to "have panic attacks"so to speak, causing an IBS flareup. At least I know what I need to do, its just doing it. If I wouldn't have put off and put off exercising I wouldn't be as stressed. So Im trying to get back into that and I bought a yoga video, there are some great poses for IBS this lady came up with, Im doing relaxation techniques to help my stomach muscles to relax....man I didn't know how tense I was holding them. This is alot to do and it's not easy. you know what I've been under. The intense roller coaster, with Cales mom sick and then dying, my Dad having major surgery and coming close to loosing him, then Cale's surgery, then the exam and Christmas and now buying the house, etc etc etc.
It will get better though, with alot of support

Rlan, you sound a lot like me! I also find driving to be very relaxing, especially when the sun is shining, which unfortunately hasn't been the case much lately! It really lifts my mood. I also read when I'm feeling stressed. I agree, it helps get my mind off my own problems and into a whole different world. I also recommend a nice, hot bubble bath! That always helps my troubles melt away.

Wow, that's great that you'll have your own room in the new house! It sounds like once it's done you'll have a lot less stress in your life. But for now I hope the yoga and meditation help, it sounds like they should! As for support, you know we're always here if you need us! Take care and good luck relaxing!

By the way, what Yoga video is that? Is it aimed specifically at IBS?

Spas and Relaxing new

Kree's got the right idea here with the hot bubble bath. When we lived in California we had an outdoor spa (like all those crazy people down there!), and I miss it. SOOOOOO relaxing! Now that we're building a home, hubby said no more spas -- BUT I could order a jetted tub in the master bath. Yaay. The builder thinks I'm crazy and doesn't want to do it (big $$$$), but I'm holding my ground. My argument with him is a simple one -- it's cheaper than an outdoor spa!

There's nothing more relaxing!

My aunt and uncle just put a whirlpool bath in the new master bedroom they added on to their house, and they love it! Bev, in your own words, I say... GOFERIT!
