Most of the posts that I have read, people write that their day is determined by how their tummy is when they wake up. I feel great when I get up, but it is a steady decline after that. And if I eat after 6pm, I can forget sleeping. I have been on bentyl for 3 weeks, and this helps, but I would like to have IBS controlled totally by diet. Any suggestions? (Aside from peppermint tea) Thanks, Shawna

I'm the same way. I usually wake up feeling ok and then my stomach expands all day long. When I switched from Metamucil to Citrucel and Fibercon I felt a lot of relief. Any chance you take a morning dose of Metamucil?

If you can try using a heating pad. My problem is the opposite, I start off bad in the morning, and usually get better throughout the day. But I always keep a heating pad at my desk. And I almost always sleep with one. I have checked with my dr., and he said that heating pads are fine to use all the time, just be sure that you use a heating pad cover with it.

I am the same way - wake up great, then bloat and pain my way through the day to a miserable evening. What are you eating? Are you IBS C or D? I may be able to give you a few suggestions if you give me some more info.

Does the heat help with pain or bloating or what?

I am both C and D, and they go in 2 week intervals. But the symptom that gives me the most trouble is nausea. For the last 2 months, the only thing I can handle is rice. But even if I eat rice after 6 pm the nausea keeps me up all night. I've tried peppermint tea, and it is aweful on my acid reflux and pleurisy. Would heat help the nausea? Thanks, Shawna

You sound exactly like me 2 years ago. Try ginger tea for the nausea. Either buy some or slice a size of a quarter into a mug of boiling water. It will both help the nausea and your upset stomach. You could try the heat - maybe a relaxing bath might help, too. I know - I used to eat my supper around four o'clock to avoid night troubles. It seemed the later I ate the worse I felt. Are you taking a vitamin supplement of some sort? I found Boost to be very tolerable - it's a meal replacement "shake" that is dairy-free. Take care.

I am a brand new poster so I hope I am not stepping on anyones toes....but this is what I do.....
I am the same way - I am fine in the morning and then by night (supper time) I am sick. But I have found if you stick to Heather's diet - all day you will feel alot better.
I have IBS-D. I used to be in such incredible pain that I couldnt leave the house in the PM, I had to do everything in the morning or afternoon. I do not like taking alot of Metimucil etc so I have made a huge effort to follow Heathers diet all day. It makes my nights a million times better. I am still just a bit sick - but nothing near the pain I used to endure.
The other thing I find helpful is any type of herbal tea. I didn't really like the taste of cammomile tea or peppermint tea so I tried herbal tea. I have Wildberry and I have Apple/Cinnamon. I find I can drink those and they don't bother my stomach. I actually feel better - because sometimes I also feel nausea at night.
I know everybody is different but maybe some of my tricks will work for you.
Take care
