Question about fennel tea.....

Could someone please tell me about how much whole fennel to use to make a cup of tea? Also, how long should I let it steep? Many thanks!

I make 3 cups at a time in a tea press. I use about one tabelsopoon. It really depends on you...if you like the flavor and also if your tummy is really upset. I would do about 1tsp per 8 oz and go from there. I would steep 3-5 minutes. Taste test after a few minutes.

I'm with Steph. I put a tablespoon of fennel in my tea strainer, together with a tablespoon of peppermint, and let it steep. Then, I remove the strainer and let it sit in a clean dry cup for later in the day. Then, after the second cup, I toss it.

I'm really butting in here, ain't I?
I like my tea strainer. I got it at the health food store where they have all the teas. It's stainless steel and has a lip all around the top that sits over top of the cup. From the lip hangs a stainless basket that holds the tea and hangs inside the cup. Easy to fill, easy to steep, and easy to remove -- AND, best of all, no tea gets through that stainless mesh basket! Cost me $7.

I like to put a lid on my tea mug to keep the heat in, but the lid doesn't fit snugly with the tea strainer in the cup. Oh well...I guess I'll just have lukewarm tea (unless you have any tips for keep it hot -- I don't own a microwave, unfortunately). Thanks!

Pixna, do you boil your water first, to a full boil? That's pretty hot -- and certainly should stay hot for the short time it takes to steep the tea?
Maybe I just like my tea a little cooler. I can't take anything real hot; it burns my tongue. Besides, I think the tea is very good at room temperature (although it's usually down me by the time it cools off that much).

Yes, I do bring the water to a full boil first. I generally steep my tea for 6 to 7 minutes (to get it good and strong). I like sipping it and starting off with it real hot. It just feels soothing to me that way.
By the way, Bev -- I saw in a previous post here that you are in your mid-fifties. I am in my early fifties -- it's nice to know that someone here is my age!
