Hi Jenn! I was having trouble with my hormones too. After a year of breastfeeding and a quick weaning, my period finally returned. I was terribly ill! I decided to try the pill piggyback but had spotting and bleeding for four weeks straight. It was horrid! I posted here about bc alternatives and talked with my gyn. I finally decided on the IUD Mirena in hopes to reduce or get rid of my periods so I can have less IBS attacks. It has a steady release of bc hormones for five years. And, because it is an IUD, the hormones are released just in the cervix so they don't travel thru the rest of your body. I know I'm not being very medically eloquent but then that's not my background. I just like the thought that the hormones don't travel! It's only been a couple of weeks but I'm liking it so far.

Keep working on the IBS diet. It takes some time to get used to it. I've had ups and downs because there are some foods I just can't seem to give up. Sometimes I catch myself reaching for the milk, cheese or red meat (cooked of course!) and have to remind myself of all the pain it will mean. Good luck to you!

I have my time of the month like every 2 or 3 months. I went to see the obgyn and she acted like that is no big deal, did not offer any medicine to help regulate me. The crapms make me wish I was dead and some times I think I am going to pass out from it. Crying all the time is what I have been doing again and it's already past that time of the month. I have bipolar disorder so I just assume that is what it is but I have never been like this. I thought it was because my father passed away, that was in July and I was crying every day for months after. Now after reading all these I am going to get on the pill or some thing. I would love some thing to just stop them. Heck I am not having anymore kids so how come they can't just take it all out..lol!
I will for sure call my doc monday and get in ASAP!
Ty all of u

See, that's what my periods used to be like when the first few years I got them. So I went on the pill. I had a regular period and the cramps, though still not a barrel of fun, were much, much more manageable. I can't believe your OB/GYN didn't offer you that option!!!

I'm sorry to hear you are having such a terrible time. What region do you live in? Do you get much sun? When you're feeling dumpy try getting outside for a walk. I know it sounds stupid, and I'm not saying it will solve all your problems, but something about the sun I've read lets your body up its serotonin levels and makes you feel better. I think that's why winter is so rough on us (I know that must be why I'm so miserable in the east US when I'm used to my 60 degree winter temperatures in Texas.) And the exercise is a plus too, as you know. Anyway, it won't solve all your problems, but it might help you deal with the immediate problem of crying fits. I like to think I'm recovering from my depression, and those crying fits are anything but productive. In fact they are stalling your IBS improvements. If youc an stop one in its tracks you've won half the battle. Let me know what you think. You'd be surprised what a little change will do for a crying fit!

Please post when you're feeling down. Oddly, it doesn't bring anybody down when others need help. In helping others we learn, too! Everyone benefits when you talk it out!

Sorry you're having such a rough time. What type of fiber are you taking? That can cause bloating and attacks in some people - especially ones with psyllium. As for the Milk of M - RUN AWAY! I wouldn't take this AT ALL. It may also be causing problems.
Hav eyou tried peppermint tea? For me, it's almost a miracle cure seriously.
