Why is dairy an issue for some people? I keep reading about soy and rice milk, which niether I like, as the best alternative for milk. I put regular milk in my cereal every moring for breakfast and I don't seem to have any problems.

dairy has lactose, caesin and whey, all of which are gi stimulants. I, too, dont seem to have much of a problem with lactose free, skim milk (lactose is the biggest factor in dairy with me) just as long as i dont drink it on an empty stomach. rice and soy milk contain no gi stimulants and are low in fat, and are therefore a better alternative. i would love to drink it, but here, a half a gallon of lactose free skim milk is 99 cents and a half a gallon of rice or soy milk is close to 4 bucks.

I think Heather explains it best on this website. It's not just the lactose that causes problems. Look up under trigger foods - dairy.

Angela - wish I lived in NY just to be able to buy the Lactose free milk at a half gallon at 99 cents. Here a half gallon of Lactaid is $3.50. Soy milk at Trader Joe's is cheap.
