So I had my Gi Dr appt today. To start he had a bad cold so didn't feel good. He told me he doesn't really believe in IBS and said my symptoms don't sound like IBS at all. So he wants to test for lactose and fructose intolerance, and check my thyroid and some other hormone. I don't see how it could be lactose or fructose since I'm not eating those things now. Then, in the middle of the exam he was called out and took so long that I had to leave to pick up my kids. So I don't know what his final recommendation is or what I am to do next! To top things off I made the famous pasta and shrimp recipe and managed to even screw that up so that it looks like tapioca! AARGGG!

Joan, I don't mean to laugh, but I can't help it. I've had these kinds of days, and they're nothing to laugh at, so I apologize -- but it was the pasta and shrimp that put me over the edge.

Doctors! He didn't have time for you -- yet you can be sure he'll have time to send you his whopping bill! I wonder if he'll deduct for the time he DIDN'T spend with you on that scheduled appointment! GRRR. Don't get me started.

Were you referred to this GI by your primary care giver? I'd ask for another referral. You haven't had a colonoscopy, then? So it's possible you DON'T have IBS. Okay, okay, so there's a good thing. This could turn out in your favor, Girl!

Let us know what you decide to do.

Oh Bev, that was just a few of the highlights to my peachy day. I had a full work up 5 years ago when I got the diagnosis. Another GI Dr covered all the bases from colonoscopy, to endoscopy, the Barium swallow and enema, gallbladder work up, etc. This GI Dr believes symptoms are caused by food allergies, but doesn't see my symptoms fitting into either category. I'm an enigma once again. He also doesn't think I have canker sores in my mouth. He said something about a yeast infection before he went sneezing and coughing out of the room. I'm so glad he shook my hand.
Now I sit with my son who is covered in peanut butter and wiping his face on my clothes while he sticks his hand down my shirt. What more could I ask for?

Canker sores in your mouth? I thought that was a symptom of crohn's or colitis - I can't remember which. I would visit the c and c board and see. As for the Doctor - ditch him. He sounds really quite useless - literally. If he doesn't believe in it, how can he possibly help you????
As for the son and the PB - I can totally relate - mine's 2 and 4 months. How old's yours?

Oh Joan, sorry to hear about your yucky day! I hope after you wipe the PB off your son's face you can get to bed, because hopefully tomorrow will be better! As for your GI doc, I agree, kick his butt to the curb! Well, not literally, lol. But he certainly doesn't sound like he knows what he's talking about. If you're not eating things and still having problems, how can your problems be an intolerance to those things?? Oy. Go see another doc!

HI... just curious.. has Celiac been ruled out in your case? - Do you know anything about Celiac? it is intolerance to gluten... which is a protein found in wheat, barley and rye... and lots of processed foods... "modified food starch" ... it can mimic IBS and lots of other things and has a bunch of symtoms... look it up.

Joan I'm so sorry you had to through this today. Find another doctor who reads studies about IBS and believes it is a real thing.

As for your kid with PB- that cracks me up. I have plenty of those days, except two of my boys still like to wipe their faces with their sleves. Life of a mom.

5 years ago I had a colonoscopy with biopsy which I guess is an accurate test for celiac, but I'm getting a blood test too.
