Discouraged...

I am so discouraged. It feels like I'll never get my stomach under control. Every time I think I have it figured out, something else upsets it. I feel like I'm going to be eating nothing but bread and water the rest of my life.

It's so hard to focus on something else when I'm in pain. Rationally, I know that this too shall pass (so to speak!). But emotionally I'm down and blue and convinced it will always be this way and never get better. I feel like I'm starting at square one again on the IBS diet.

But realistically, I'm going to go meditate, then eat my plain spaghetti and drink my peppermint tea and go to bed. Tomorrow is another day, and hopefully a better one.

Help. If my stomach still hurts tomorrow, I don't know what I'm going to do...

Sorry to be feeling so sorry for myself, but I know you'll all understand.

Good night. See you all tomorrow.

I know how you feel. I'm so sorry you're so frustrated.

If it makes you feel better, American Idol starts up tonight... I mean, it could be worse. You could sound like those people and get dressed like Paula Abdul!

Anyway, my basic strategy is to distract myself and remember that I have to feel better eventually.

Hey, Girlfriend, hold on. Why do you have to have "plain spaghetti"? Ew. "Bread and water for the rest of [your] life"? Who gave you that sentence?! Have you been trying any of the recipes in here? There's quite a variety, and all of them I tried (except for one) are really good.

Are you getting your exercise? Drinking all your water? Taking your fiber? Doing everything right?

I have my setbacks too. You know I'm just getting over a 3-day attack, which discouraged me at first as well. But the good days that we have really DO make the bad days not quite so bad because the good ones are SOOOO good.

Am I making any sense?

Have you given any thought to the hypnosis? I know I keep recommending it, probably boring everyone to tears, but it worked so well for me that I just assume it will for others as well -- and I can see in your post just how disheartened I was -- like you -- before I started the program.

You can't get discouraged; we won't let you. There are too many of us here that you have to answer to.

Bev

I was like you about one year ago until I found Heather's diet. Thanks to it, my symptoms are under control 95% of the time ( PMS gives me a little problem, but I can manage). You have to be discipline with it to get out of your situation. My first advice to you is to avoid wheat and try rice and its products first. I noticed a huge change and I am not allergic to the grain. Rice is the safest grain around. I was on bread and water and with pain until I try the rice.

LauraSue:

I'm sorry you're feeling so rotten; I know that I (as well as everyone else on this board) can relate to how you're feeling. I'm personally feeling just like you right now.

I don't know what to say to make you feel better, as again I'm right where you are. Here's a BIIIIIIIIIIIIG hug and prayers that you will feel better soon.

I forgot! You could be having problems with stomach acid if you are only eating bread and water. My doctor gave me Tagamet because I was eating too little. Talk to your doctor. The medicine helped me a lot without causing more problems.

Woohoo!!! I can't wait! lol I'm trying out next year when I actually meet the age requirement! I want ot see the horrible performers as well as the awesome ones lol.

Anyways, I'm sorry you feel so down. I know exactly how you feel (well, we all do, but ya know) and believe me, it gets better. Everyone is so supportive and fun to be around that it really brightens up your day and makes you feel better to know that others are going through this as well. If I ever get really upset, I blast remy music and chill for a while. It helps me, but maybe trying osme relaxation techniques will help. I know plenty, so if you'd like to know any, just email me!

That guy on the show is so mean and cruel, I refuse to give him the credit by watching him treat people like he does.

Sorry, but NO DEAL!

Gerry, don't you think that guy is cruel? Those poor people are trying really hard; it takes a lot of guts to get up there and make a fool of yourself -- and after he's finished with them, they feel like they're worthless!

That kind of show I will never watch. I can't stand seeing people being treated like that.

I have to say I am with you. I don't know if he is staged to be that way, or that is his basic personality, but I hate it when people rip on other people. Egos are so fragile anyway.

That's right, Joan. It's CRUEL. Who the hell does he think he is anyway? Critics can decline a performance with a little grace and leave the performer with a tiny shred of dignity. That so-called "man" has no concept of what it's like to be humane.

Oh dear -- I just noticed we shouldn't be here; we should be in The Living Room!

Hi LauraSue, So sorry you are having such a rough time.I know it feels discouraging, plus the actual pain makes it hard for me to trust that it can get better.I remember feeling that way too. when I started out,and whenever I had another attack. Now less than 3 mos. later I feel so much better a lot of the time. This gives me a good reminder that things will settle down.It just seems to take a while for your stomach to become less stressed or reactionary.Stick w/us.It will get better.

Feeling better today, and reading your replies made me laugh out loud. What a great group of people you are! Thanks for the encouragement. By the way, I should have put quotes around "bread and water." It was a figure of speech, not a literal description of my diet! I did however eat the plain spaghetti last night and you know what...it tasted really good!

And today so far, knock wood, I'm much better. Just have that feeling like you know your stomach is still a little off and the least thing could tip you back to a bad place? But I'm babying it. Had a plain toasted english muffin with just a little cinnamon sugar for breakfast, NO butter! Aren't I good??!!

So I've made it 10 days with no D. Let's see if I can get through 11!

I know this all to well too.. I had a gastrinitis in my gi tract and it took 3 months for me to kick it. When I did IBS set in. Started out with hommade chicken soup and rice added back carrots cooked and zucchini slowy, I ate this for breakfast/lunch/dinner for 5 days. Stable I was and when I had my first normal b/m added back eggs (sustitute)
wheat free waffles and grilled chicken, rice pudding, Heather's recipes one at a time. You'll get there. I still having trouble with liquids though? Ican drink minute maid lemonade, water, chamomile tea, rice milk, hot cocoa, but kind get past that my tummy goes nuts. Take care and stay upbeat it will happen for you!!Lots of HUgs!!
