You know on second thought, I need to rethink these granola bars. I see they have sorbitol in them too. I really do NOT recommend them after all. Live and learn. Sorry.

Where you been, Girlfriend?!? Kree posted it in the recipe board on the 8th. She put a lemon glaze on it, but for us PURISTS -- and I mean PURISTS -- we don't want no nothin' disturbing the savory flavor of the ginger! I made them without the lemon, OF COURSE, and they're TO DIE FOR. My hubby and I are fighting over them. Say, I wonder how much fat's in 'em . . . KREE?
Bev, I don't know how to figure out the fat in my own recipes! I only know how to calculate it when there are nutrition facts in front of me! But with only 1/4 cup oil for 18 muffins I don't think they can be very high in fat. ![](/messageboards/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif)
And Chinagrl... try them with the glaze! Don't listen to Bev the purist, it makes them so sweet and yummy!

Don't worry about it, we all have to learn these things! I had to stop eating Quaker bars a while ago too. Blah!

"Don't listen to Bev the Purist"? "Makes them so sweet and yummy"? I'm tellin' ya -- you don't need more "sweet and yummy" -- the gingerbread muffin BY ITSELF is incredible.
NOW, lets see, about the fat content. It has 1/4 cup oil in 18 muffins, that's 4 tablespoons in 18, or .2222222 tablespoon each, multiplied by 9 is 1.2. Now, 1.2 times the total number of calories -- KREE?

Sorry Bev, you lost me there! Math isn't my strong point! BUT... I thought of another way to figure it out! I modified it from another website, so I checked out their nutritional analysis. The original recipe was 26% fat, but I used half the amount of oil and only egg whites in place of the 2 eggs, so that means it's LESS THAN 13 % fat!! Excellent!

Heather's turned me into a fat-calculating fool. I have my calculator with me at all times, and I use it! I go through my pantry, I go through the grocery store -- even my hubby will grab something off the counter and say, "calculate THIS!"
Yeah, your muffins are GO, Girlfriend!

I was looking through Heather's book this morning and noticed that people with GERD shouldn't drink peppermint tea. I also just did a search here and see it mentioned alot. I wonder if that was my problem Sunday night and Monday. I think I had three cups on Sunday and two Saturday and two Friday, trying to be really good and follow the extra safe diet exactly.
I haven't been officially diagnosed with GERD but I'm going to ask my doctor when I see him this month. I certainly meet all the Rome Criteria. So maybe it was the peppermint, not the granola bar. As I said, I eat them all the time no problem. The only major change in my diet was the peppermint tea. Up until now, I've only had a cup now and then and it helped, but maybe this time I overdid it!
Any thoughts??? Should I switch to chamomile? (Don't like fennel, unfortunately.) Thanks.

Was it your stomach that was bothering you the other night, or your intestines? Because if it was stomach it's possible that could have been the peppermint tea, but that definitely wouldn't bother your intestines. It actually has natural antispasmodic properties, and should actual calm them. So it depends on where the problem was!
