I noticed that the Soy Dream ice cream has a lot of fat, too. I was shocked! But, I usually eat Soy Delicious Mint Marble Fudge, which has, I think, 3 grams of fat per serving (1/2 cup). The one that I always eat is the Wholesoy Caramel ice cream, it only has 1 gram of fat per serving. And it tastes really, really good!

Since Math has never been my subject I will just tell you what it says on the container.
150 cal per half cup
50 cal from fat
total fat 6g or 9%
0.5g saturated fat
0 cholesterol
I'll let you do the math. Let me know what you come up with.

Joan, I come up with a different figure than 9% -- quite a bit different! I figure it has 36%. Isn't the 9% figure the amount of your TOTAL DAILY INTAKE?

If you take the total number of fat (6g) and multiply it by 9 (number of calories from fat) you get 54, then you divide that by the total number of calories (150) to get the percentage, and that's 36%. Am I mistaken?

I'm curious about something. You said that's for a half cup serving, right? Where did you get that half cup figure? The carton I have is in grams, so the serving size is 70 grams. Is that a half cup? OMG! I had 2 scoops, comparable to MUCH more than a half cup! That means I had . . . . HOW MUCH FAT?

Now I really AM sick!

Hey, thanks, Heavenlee!

I'm putting these on my grocery list -- along with Soy Delicious Cookie Avalanche. Have you tried that? Wonder how much fat it has . . .

You know, Guar Gum is listed as an ingredient on all of the Rice Dream frozen desserts. I am intolerant to Guar gum (also known as Benefiber), as many people are. It is a laxative and can be a real problem for people with sensitive digestive systems. Additives, too, can be a major problem.

Good call, and you're right....36% according to my math too....No wonder I only allow myself 1/2 serving. (I tend to count TOTAL fat grams for the entire day, spaced out over the day...if that makes any sense). Sure glad my health food store is out of the stuff a lot. I only buy it about once every 3 months....
Can't do soy so that's out..............sheesh, back to the lower fat smoothies!!!

Bad news... I checked my freezer and the Cookie Avalanche is 40% fat! BUT... personally I do fine with it if I have a small amount after a good meal. It's not something I would eat by itself. I'm not condoning breaking the 25% rule, but even Heather has said it's okay to eat a tiny bit of bad things after a high soluble fiber meal, right?

You know this is a good point. Also -- I think a lot of this is stress too. When we know that we're being bad... and we're stressing over the fact that so many foods are over the limit... that could be causing a lot of problems too. I just eat it in small amounts and don't worry about it.

I haven't had any attacks yet {{{crossing fingers & knocking on wood}}} I think the key is having it after a modest, safe, meal - and then having a modest amount. I also don't have it every night. I have the soy "ice cream" about twice a week --- I use the ADB brownies or something like that for my dessert other nights when I want something sweet.

I did have a bagel with my chocolate spread last night - a fairly thin coat. It was pretty good (not as good as I remember nutella -- but that was memories....) It's a little thicker... and I could tell it has more fat than what I usually eat. I didn't have an attack -- but I would say go thin when spreading and only after a non-fat meal with this one. The fat % is very high. It was a nice indulgence though. For those that don't have problems with small amounts of dairy -- the Nutella may have less fat and be a better bet -- I don't have a jar in front of me to see.

I can't use that excuse anymore. I am SOOO on a campaign to stamp out all FAT! I'm checking out that Soy Delicious mint marble fudge or Wholesoy caramel. If they can't cut the fat, then I can do without. You folks who enjoy sorbet, well, more power to you -- but it doesn't cut it with ME.
