Hi, has anyone found charcoal tablets help their symptoms? A naturopath suggested I try them. She said they are good for absorbing and neutralising excess gas thereby helping with bloating. I am always reluctant to try something new without hearing from others.

My mom got me hooked on them and they work great for me. Your stool will be black for a few days but thats because the pill is black. It really absorbs the gas. I only take one when I'm really desperate.

Thanks, If you have had good luck with them I might give them a try. I was just a bit worried as I read on the pack that they can help D and I suffer IBS - C, I don't want to take anything that might make me C.

I have tried it and haven't really noticed a lot of difference. I'm not all that sure of when and how much your exactly supposed to take them though so maybe I wasn't doing the right thing.

Hi Kerrie,

I have IBS-C (well C and D).....I didn't like the charcoal tablets at all. They didn't seem to help with the gas (I get really bad bloating, maybe it wasn't enough) and it seemed to aggrivate the C. I sometimes also feel the gas spasm through the colon...the charcoal seemed to induce this.

It you have tried it, let us know how you went. I can't be sure if it was the charcoal that caused the reation I had (I get the same reaction to multivitamins) but I'm a bit afraid to have another try.

I have a bottle of charcoal tabs that I keep in case of gas emergency! They do work, but you have to take them every 2 hours until it stopsthe gas. Burned toast works just as well, really! I also use Aloe Vera juice for gas; just drink it quick; it's a tinge bitter..

Kerrie - if you do a SEARCH on CHARCOAL you'll find all the previous posts re charcoal. Have fun reading.

BTW, good pix. It's great when we can put a face with the name!

My grandmother swears by them. She was brought up thinking it was very rude to pass wind and that it should be kept inside! She's found that they are the only thing that soothe the gassy build up.
