I have been reading the postings about being shy. I have been "quiet" all my life, but am trying to break the shell, and actually have been quite sucessful! I always knew that if I didn't have IBS that I wouldn't be or have been so shy. I think it is just about confidence, loving yourself no matter what, right? Would we all be so shy if we didn't have IBS?

YES! I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, mksb1309 (that's some name!), but -- at least in my case -- my shyness had nothing to do with my IBS when I was a little girl (WAY before I came down with IBS) and being raised by a very domineering mother who considered me a pain in her a--! When strangers constantly told her, "Oh, what an adorable little girl!" she always replied, "Yeah? Well, beauty is as beauty does!" I just kept retreating into my shell, hoping no one would see this horrible little kid who was "not doing beauty".
No, no, the shyness has NOTHING to do with IBS.

Hate to say it, but at 30, I think - 'always been shy, always will be'. I have IBS AND i'm a shy one. (sadly) I think IBS might be easier to handle if I was a loud, bubbly happy-go-lucky, couldn't care less, confident so and so; but alas I am not...

I have always been shy too -- I think I am a little less shy now than when I was younger. I think I am a little more comfortable in my skin now than when I was in my 20s. However -- I still am pretty shy.
