Hi there,
After a few months, maybe a year, reading about fodmaps, I will give it a try, starting in 2 weeks. First I want to search for a week-menu.
My biggest problems at the moment are gas and pain/problems after eating pasta.
I am sure I will have a lot of questions coming weeks. Maybe some of you can help me.
We use garlic very often.. that is fodmap.. what can we use instead of garlic?

Garlic or onion infused oil can be used instead of garlic or onions. The FODMAPs are not soluble in oil but the garlic and onion flavors are soluble. It is easy to make
garlic infused oil

Thank you Sylvia. Yesterday I made a start but I know I will cheat a few times coming week. But we bought gluten-free bread, kiwifruit instead of apples, I made the right choises with fruit, drinks and dinners. For breakfast we made the ricepudding from the 'eating for ibs book'. Yesterday I only had a lemonade at a friends house with apple in it. The rest of the day was fodmap-free.
What herbal teas are fodmap-rich? I drink a lot mint and fennel tea. ---

Fennel tea is high FODMAP. Kate Scarlata has good article on tea and FODMAPs

After today I ate for 3 days fodmap low.. almost fodmap free. I wunder, how fast should you notice difference? My stomach doesn't feel bloated anymore and gas seems almost gone. I was very windy/flatulent for a long time and yesterday and today it feels okay again, almost none.
Can this be the fodmap low diet so quickly? The biggest changes for me are: no apples, glutenfree bread and pasta, no onions/garlic.
It should be great if this really makes the different. -----

After three days should show less gas for sure..There's also less sulfur in you too from the onions that helps with less gas I would think. Aren't cooked onions better at getting some sulfur out? Plus, less soluble fiber at a time without those foods, which over ferments as well if there's an overgrowth of undesirable bacteria. That's why I think going back to just the rice grain helps during the flare-ups. Apples are in 3 of the fodmap catagories I think, but the peel is included, not excluded as with this site's diet unless cooked into the applesauce I guess, so there's that factor.

Thanks for your reply. It sounds great. I am feeling much better and that in such little time. Yesterday I did had some normal bread and some onions and felt getting worse again. Never noticed this. I'll keep on going the right track.

I noticed years ago in my reading about this diet in Heather's book that this is a low residue diet mainly, except for something like the oatmeal?? with a pretty high soluble fiber portion, which could be why I've never been able to digest it properly, even with enough liquids..still got way too much gas. I even tried smaller amounts of it.
