I am new to the site and IBS. The only thing I have not cut out of my diet is wine and I still have bad pain. Has anyone ever been able to stabalize enough to have a glass of wine now and then?

With me it was Jack Daniels. In answer to your question -- yes and no. I have to limit my JD to one glass, and I have to have soluble fiber before the drink -- actually it helps to have some AFTER the drink as well.

First, get yourself as stable as you can before you venture out with that merlot. Then, as I say, have some French bread first.

Let us know how you do.

I have not had problems with wine. Wine does not seem to give me problems. I do suggest after reading alot from this site that you should have soluble fiber first though. I usually have wine at night with dinner or one prepping dinner.

Lee,

I would try eliminating the wine for a time, to see if the pain stops. If it does, you know it's the wine.

I adore wine, and there are times I can tolerate it, and times I can't. I can even tolerate the occasional beer. But I can only do a max of 2 glasses of either. If I hit three, I get sick... and it's not worth it! If I've been sick, stressed, or not getting enough sleep I just pass on the alcohol and get some water, 'cause that's when I'm most likely to have trouble and get sick.

Everyone else was suggesting exactly what I'd say: once you try reintroducing wine, make sure you have it after some soluble fiber. Eat some pretzels in the car on the way to happy hour, grab some bread from the bread basket on the table and drink your wine with dinner instead of before... and your dinner should already have tons of soluble fiber. You may just be ok!

Good luck.

I had a SMALL glass of wine on new years..after eating a bowl of oatmeal...it was okay. I had no reaction but i wuldnt expect it to be okayb all that often...it's like coffee..on monday morning i might get away with a cup..but another cup on tuesday might be a killer. I am new to this so others may have better advice..but i save my wine for special occasions...although i do notuce it bothers me less than other things. 3 bites of cheescake for instance is never ever okay for me..just like a hmaburger is never okay for me...so i assume it is different for everyone...you may have to risk it and see if it that important to you...

The answer is ... maybe. I am definitely stable enough and can enjoy a small glass of wine with a safe supper. It all depends - it varies from person to person. I found wine is easier than say rye or rum. Beer tends to bloat because of the carbonation. Wine seems best for me.

Hi!
Last week, I went to see a nutritionnist and she told me I could try having a cup of wine with dinner after eating soluble fibers. I haven't tested it yet, but after reading what everybody wrote, I'm optimistic it will work. Can't wait to try it! Good luck and...... enjoy that glass of wine!

Just be careful! Take it easy the first time... if I have even a few sips of wine I'll be fine that night, but I'll wake up at about four and spend the next five hours wishing I was dead! Not to rain on anyone's parade (I'm so jealous you all can drink it).

Don't feel bad, Girlfriend. I can't touch the stuff. Jack doesn't bother me, but wine -- ooooo-eeeee-owwww! Burns going down, and burns STAYING down!
