Yep - I don't smoke but just find that being in a smoky atmosphere is enough to set off my IBS.

I just quit in March of 2003 using the Nicotene patch. I feel healthier in general just not smelling like smoke all the time. Plus all the other things like bad breath, smoking out in the freezing cold, being stuck someplace you can't smoke and having a nicotene fit! Ugh I don't miss that at all. I also started taking the peppermint pills and acacia within a few months of quitting and I did start feeling better (still do feel a lot better). Now I spend my cigarette money on splurges for myself and I don't have to feel guilty. Hope this helps! Once you get over the difficulty of quitting (it's so hard!) you will be so happy you did. Plus you'll live a lot longer. Sorry to sound so preachy about it but it's the truth. And I admire anyone you has successfully quit because it's the hardest thing you'll ever do.

I did find that I felt much better after quitting. And honestly I didn't quit for the health benefits or anything, I just decided one day that I didn't want to smoke anymore. I think it was the smell more than anything. I smoked for about 10 years or so and really hadn't tried to quit before that. But I found that if I'd have one here and there, it would really cause a lot of bloating and general feelings of yuckiness. Trust me, I know it's not easy to stop, but maybe it and see if your symptoms improve at all. Good luck!!
