I was wondering if anyone juices vegetables as a means of getting the health benefits without all that insoluble fiber?

If there's one thing that almost all eating plans agree on, it's that increasing vegetable intake is a good thing.

However, this obviously increases the amount of insoluble fiber, which is bad for many folks with IBS.

I juice vegetables from time to time, in the hope that I can get some of the health benefits without consuming all that insoluble fiber. I can't so that it always agrees with my stomach, but probably more so that if I were to eat the vegetables whole.

Anyone else use this strategy? (Note that I do not add any fruit - just vegetables).

Juicing removes most but not all insoluble fiber. It is a good way to get benefits of vegs and fruit. I juice fruits particularly berries.

Cool - thanks for the posts.

I agree that juicing is a great way to get many the benefits (vitamins, phytonutrients, antioxidants, etc.) without the massive IF overload.

I eat oatmeal with a sprinkle of brown sugar, slices from 1/2 banana and 3 tablespoons of berry juice - nothing else. It makes a great breakfast.

I eat rolled oats but if cooked in water it's so bland that I can barely force it down. So I usually overcinnamon it (cinnamon is IF too, though) and lately I like to cook it in rooibos vanilla tea (any fruit tea where you like the flavour works) instead of water to make it more tasty.

I'm not particularly sensitive to soya, so cooking it in soya milk is nice and works for me, but I only drink soya milk the months of the year I'm living in Britain. Rice milk tastes far too sweet for me and I don't like almond milk, but I think these two types might work too instead of water.

Fruit on top after cooking makes all the difference, I eat blueberries/raspberries with it when I can afford it - with SF supplement. Cantaloupe is another favourite. An orange is also nice. Basically any fruit makes it so much better, but then make sure it's an acceptable FODMAP fruit and that you use a SF supplement if needed.

now: stable through EFI+FODMAP dieting (no lactose/no fructose/some fructans and some polyols)

before: IBS-D(pseudo-diarrhoea), bloating, often unbearable pain esp from too much fat: Apr 2007- Dec 2010

[I've tried VSL#3 -> I could tolerate v good amounts of IF (even with less SF), it worked great (but overall I find it too expensive)]

Both but many people can manage the symptoms using dietary modification.
