Hi everyone,

seems like a long time since I have been here, I guess thats a good thing really. However I am hoping someone could help, been through the mill a bit lately

Here is my story

(3 years post colonoscopy positive diagnosis IBS)

I recently was in for spine surgery for a herniated disc. two days prior I had a massive attack of D, just put it down to an IBS flare up

Went in for surgery as planned nad of coure filled with antibiotics. Came out of hospital next day we fragile tummy, put it down to all the meds.

On the following Monday i woke with the feeling someone wa doing open gut surgery on me the pain was enough to make a grown man cry, followed by real bad D.

I went to the docotrs and she suspected C-Diff and carried out a stool culture. By the time the culture came back which was sadly positive, my guts was starting to settle a bit, but I was put on Flagyl to kill off the C-Diff, of course this targeted antibiotic is major stuff and put my gut back into shock.

So now off the antibiotics 5 day later I am still suffering cramps, stools all sorts of types and mucus. I have been taking heathers mint tablets daily and also a probiotic.

My long winded question is - has anyone got any advise on post antibiotic IBS and how to calm the poor old gut back down again?

The other odd feeling is that bowel movements set my foot off from the inflamed nerve root from my back making my foot tingle, thats weird to say the least.

Wow...so sorry to hear your story. I don't have a suggestion but to give it some time and keep up with fluids. I had similar story the last time I took an antibiotic...in fact ended up back in the hospital twice for dehydration. I haven't taken an antibiotic in 28 years and am still scared stiff just thinking about it. Maybe someone else on this board can offer more?
