Has anyone discovered any insight into wether the symptoms of IBS and Diverticulosis have gotten confused? I see more articles that state, diverticulosis has possible symptoms, without the complication of Diverticulitis. They sound familiar. I was told by the DOCS that this was not probable and I had IBS, not symptoms from my diverticulosis . Not so sure what I'm treating. Call me confused.

You might find this article of interst.

Diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome is associated with diverticular disease: a population-based study.

The author's hypothesis that IBS is associated with the presence of colonic diverticular disease because these conditions share a common etiopathogenesis.

And remember the difference between diverticulitis (active inflammation of the pockets of diverticula) versus diverticulosis (non-inflammation). If you have diverticulosis, you want to be sure to not exacerbate it to whatever extent possible. I also wanted to say that I have had both IBS and diverticulosis/diverticulitis for several decades, and diverticulitis is what led to my two colectomies, since diverticulitis can lead to peritonitis and/or serious absesses for which surgery may become a requirement, which was my case.
