Question about Prilosec

I'm about to start taking prilosec to see if it can help my gas problem. I don't have reflux, but I'm wondering if my gas is possibly caused by inflammation and acid overproduction.
Is that safe to try for two weeks? The only thing I haven't done is a fructose elimination diet and I'm thinking of going to an allergy doctor (expensive).
Any thoughts, I don't want to try too much at once because my diet is really strict as it is and I'm getting depressed. Thx.

Acid over production is unlikely to be related to IBS unless you have GERD. It might be wise to ask your GP about using prilosec before starting.
Bloating and distention from gas production is one of the most common complaints from individuals with IBS. Unfortunately, they are also the symptoms that are difficult to relieve.
It definitely cannot hurt to remove excess fructose foods from your diet for a week or two and see how it goes. The first link in my signature has a good article on FODMAPs such as fructose that are known to produce gas in the colon. From a previous posting I believe you may have read the article already.

I decided to try Prilosec OTC on the hope that it's an acid/gastritis type of problem. My nurse said I could give it a shot. It's working! I'm on day 4. I slept great the last 3 nights. I still have some gas, but it's like it's being kept under control. It's not coming up anymore like it was. All I can do now is hope it continues. On another note, I'm eating mostly what I want. I've discovered that I don't have lactose or fructose intolerance.
Thanks for all the great suggestions here on the board.
