Around the same time I found Heather's website and started to follow the guidelines, I had my first (and only) appt. at my gastroenterologist. He put me on Align. Since I have no family history of colon cancer, he opted not to order a colonoscopy (unless I really wanted one-which were his words). My parents are in their 60's and recently had them, and all is good. My doctor put me on Align, and sent me on my way. I worked with his nurse closely to help with my gas, bloating, constipation. Her diet suggestions to help relieve my gas/bloating/C only made my symptoms worse. I also had an abdominal x-ray, showing alot of stool. Once I started following Heather's diet and using the Acacia, I have found much relief of my symptoms, so I did not do any testings through my dr. He was o.k. with this decision. I read about the tests alot of you have gone through, and I am wondering if I should also go through these tests even though I am feeling much better. Any advice is very much appreciated. Thanks.

Heather has a section on suggested diagnostic tests and here is a list of questions to ask your doctor . There are a variety of tests including colonoscopy and lactose/fructose malabsorption breath tests. Many other disorders can cause similar symptoms to IBS so it is worth ruling these out for peace of mind
