This past week on the Dr. Oz show, they talked about how Artichoke Extract helps ease IBS. Has anyone ever tried this?

I missed that episode. I just watched it here. Very interesting. Apparently, the extract from the leaves stimulates the production of bile making it easier to digest fats in the small intestine. Might be a useful aid for some people. Although studies suggest its effectiveness is low at best

Glad my first post went through o.k. I am very new to IBS, and continue to learn alot. I may get the nerve to try the artichoke extract, but I am cautious in venturing from my safe routine/foods. I would be lost without this website and Heather's cookbook. Thanks for responding Syl.

Oregano Oil is also good for this I believe. Would oil of oregano be safe also?

I have taken artichoke extract - certainly didn't hurt although not sure if it helped me personally.
Oil of Oregano is an entirely different matter. I do find it very helpful at killing sore throats and preventing them from turning into a full-blown cold, BUT it is very strong on the gut - I wouldn't recommend more than 1 or 2 drops per day. I notice looser stools the next day if I take it.
