last friday i had an accident while cycling to work. i ended up with a serious cut which was stitched up. I was also given a shot of antibiotics. I'm taking cephalexin four times a day.

My stomach is better than its been in YEARS. I has IBS-D symptoms but every BM since the accident has been solid.

This leaves me a bit confused. Am I healed, back to eating whatever I want? Should I resume eating wheat even though it was causing the worst symptoms? Am I better off waiting a few months before I test problem food again? Or can I expect my previous symptoms to return no matter what course I take??

It is known that a course of antibiotics may improve IBS symptoms in the short term. However in the long term they tend to return which leads to the question about long term use of antibiotics. This is part of the reason that the FDA didn't approve the non-absorbable antibiotic rifaximin for managing non-IBS-C symptoms.

If I had to live on my current diet without any symptoms I would gladly do so. Perhaps it might be wise to proceed slowly.

Good luck

wowthats great, maybe you had too much bad bacteria? If I were you I would try to eat as healthy as possible and see how that goes. Make sure to replenish yourself with the good probiotics though because antibiotics kill it all.
