How is it that I can have tenderness on my left side and occasional spasms, but I have (pardon the gross-ness) big and healthy bowel movements? Do you think my gut is just sensitive? Why is there discomfort and gas. Docs don't find anything. I wonder if it's a food allergy? Have any of your heard of gas, bloating and left-side discomfort associate with food allergies? Like I said...I can GO for sure. What's with the spasm-ness? Boooo.

My bms are often fine, but, I experience alot of other gas, pains, etc...for me it is all part of it. It certainly could be caused from what you are eating or food allergies, etc...I think that is the frustrating part of all this...trying to find what foods work for you and what doesn't!

Since I adjusted my diet I have regular BMs (type 3 & 4 on the Bristol Stool Scale ). However, I have spasms and pain on the right hand side in the ascending colon and sometimes along transverse colon.
It is possible to have regular BMs and still have IBS with spasms and pain in any or all parts of the colon including the descending colon on the right hand side.
The difficult question to answer is what are the stimuli that can cause spasms and discomfort. Stimuli from diet and lifestyle are mostly under your control. However, stimuli from things like hormones and the immune system are more difficult to influence.
If you think you may have food allergies consult a medical doctor who is specialist in allergies. Many of the on-line tests are unreliable or unproven. Have you tried gut directed hypnotherapy? The CDs are available from here. It has been shown to be effective for managing IBS pain and discomfort.
