Hi all. After 11 years of misery following the birth of my son, my new doctor has officially diagnosed me with IBS and made some recommendations. She has me taking probiotics, digestive enzymes, and a fruit and vegetable supplement. I'm also desperately trying to lose weight ( I have Hashimoto's too). Any advice would be most welcome. I have seen a dietitian in the past who told me I'd never lose weight since I don't eat salads. I'd be on the floor wishing to die if I ate a salad!

My suggestion is to follow the EFI diet completely. Go off probiotics and enzymes and any other supplement so you can see how the diet works for you. Some may disagree with that but I think enzymes can cause more problems than they solve and some probiotics cause bloating and D or C. Plus IBS doesn't mean you like healthy bacteria or enzymes but that your gut and brain have conspired against you. Just do the diet to a T and you'll feel better and lose weight. I lost 12-15 when I started it.

IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!
