I am so frustrated. I have posted about my symptoms before, but I want to know if anyone can relate to me or help me or give me some advice. I am beginning to wonder if I have endometriosis. (did I spell that right?) I have always had on and off left-side discomfort. I'm on my period now (sorry guys) and my lower left back has a dull ache all the way around to the front to my navel. But here's the thing...I am mostly a gassy girl with left problems but no bad stool, no bad doctor's reports, no other physical symptoms. Do you think I could just have a spazzy colon? Seriously. Here and there I get constipated or have diarrhea, depending on my nerves and situations in life. But why is my left side the irritated one? And that's where the gas is always trapped, too. I have excellent health, otherwise. ARGH!!!!! I do have a desk job and spend a lot of time writing as a freelancer, so maybe that counts for back pain, but why is my left side abdomen so annoying! And the thing is...it's never a constant. It comes and goes. Can anyone relate to this? Am I just thinking about it too much?!? And why do I sometimes feel like I have a big, sore gassy knot next to my navel? (to the left) ACK! How can someone who is almost always healthy have gassy issues and sore tummy issues? Like I said...it comes and goes. And has done so for like...ten years. UGH!!!!!

"Well, because you have IBS". We've all heard that too many times-I know. As a matter of fact, I have given up on my current GI doctor and am going to be seeing a new one because that's all he ever says to me after paying 55.00 for an office visit! GRR! All I can really give you is my sympathy-because I don't know the answer either. I was always very healthy until right after the birth of my first child at age 20. I'm reading a new book that espouses the theory that IBS symptoms can start in a healthy person after a bout of food poisoning, and then never goes away unless treated with a strong course (or several)of antibiotics. If you want the name of the book, I can give it to you. This is a new theory that's been developed in the last few years, but it's the best one that I've seen anyone come up with. I have spent so much time in wondering "why me" etc. Negative thoughts like that can really drag you down. So-just watch your diet and do what it says on here. I just tried the fennel tea today, and it's helping me quite a bit already with my gas. Try that, if you haven't already. And with those sort of symptoms, it's always good to get a full GI workup if you haven't done that either. All I can do is give a listening ear and commiserate with you. Sorry I couldn't be much more help! ((HUG))

I really appreciate your response. I live in a new city away from close friends and family and I really can't talk to people about this. Maybe I could use some good convo! I am interested in your book. I am just so tired of left side discomfort but no obvious reasons for it other than gas a spazz colon from time to time. And my husband is about fed up with me talking about it. Thanks for your encouragement. you are really sweet.

I get that feeling you describe haveing a pain in the side of the stomach and radiating to the low back (although its not only on the left). It is from trapped gas for me. My way of getting rid of it believe it or not is to do certain yoga poses. Thats the only thing that helps. Peppermint tea, soluble fiber will do nothing for it. Try doing a forward bend and crushing your left side for a few minutes while breathing. Do you know bow pose? Then I do that one and then foward bend again, then bow pose.. until it feels better. I have some other really good poses too. Let me know if you are interested. May sound silly but it really does help me!
