Help!! Probiotics/fiber question

I've been taking Phillips Colon Health probiotics - 1 pill per day - for about 2-3 weeks. At first, it really seemed to reduce my gas & bloating. But lately, my stomach aches every day, all day, and I have D about every few days, which creates more gas and more severe aching. I've also increased my dose of acacia fiber in that time frame, but not drastically - I went from 2 t/day to 1 T/day. I have read that it's possible I am detoxing from the probiotics, and it should stop after a few days, but it's been about 2 weeks. Should I give up on them? Is there any chance the combination of them and the fiber are causing this? I can't stand being in pain all day every day.

The only thing this might happen when you remove a probiotic is that your symptoms revert to what they where before you took it. I don't believe that would be considered 'detoxing' since there is nothing toxic about a probiotic

Did the D start before or after you upped your dose of fiber? If before then it is unlikely to be the cause.

Are you normally IBS-C, IBS-D or IBS-A?

I'm sorry, I said that wrong. What I meant is, I read that probiotics can cause my body to begin to detox, or "throw off" the bad stuff, while I'm taking them. I'm just wondering, if this is true, if I should suffer through the "detox" phase and see if there's something better on the other side - like an improvement in my pre-probiotic symptoms.

I am normally IBS-A and I was having more episodes of D prior to the probiotics. I had been taking the Acacia fiber for awhile, but wasn't very consistent at increasing it like I should. I am trying to do better with that now, but the additional symptoms are really throwing me off. Today I had D with severe pain and gas. Ugh.

Probiotics contain good bacteria that will live in the colon as along as you keep taking them. Some bacteria have been shown to modify IBS symptoms in some individuals such as reduce pain and bloating. Once you stop taking them or if you don't take them regularly the symptoms usually return with in a few days.

I don't take a fiber supplement. However, you might drop back to your regular dose and stick with a basic diet that you know works for 4-5 days.
