Hi! I recently discovered that IBS, and I just finished reading through "The First Year IBS." It was incredibly helpful. However, I have a question about how to find out whether a food contains insoluble or soluble fiber when you are just reading the nutrition facts. My mom and sister are both gluten intolerant, so we cook with a lot of alternative flours, such as buckwheat, teff, and sorghum. They all have a lot of fiber, but I don't know which type.
Can you help me with this? Thanks!

Once in a while a product will voluntarily list how much of their fiber is IF or SF, but since it isn't required few do that. So you have to check fiber charts online. Hopefully you can find some links or someone here can direct you to some charts. They aren't always perfectly reliable so, like the weather report, it is best to compare several.
-------------------- IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!
