Hi guys
Are any of you experiencing severe constipation i.e. weeks without bowel movments. ANYTHING I eat seems to constipate me severly. I have been eating just mangoes and rice and even that seems to cause severe blockages. I dont even get small bowel movements.
Has anybody experienced this and have you found a way to correct it?
btw is brown rice better then white rice for ibs-c?
thanks

Have you been diagnosed with IBS? What tests have you had? What does you GI doctor about how to handle not having BMs for weeks at a time?

Havnt seen my GI yet but my gp told me that it was IBS and am having to wait a while to see my GI. The prolonged no bowel movements was recent and my GP said it could be fecal impactions developing however she said the GI will look at that.

Well - let's hope the GI doc can give you some good advice. It is unusual for someone with IBS to not have BMs for weeks. Keep us posted as to how it goes.

Have you read through all the info on Heather's approach outside the Boards?
Mangoes and white rice are Soluble Fiber. You need to eat more overall and mix in some IF with your SF. Brown rice might be helpful because it does have some IF but remember you need both SF and IF.
And you really, really need to see a doctor ASAP. Weeks without a bowel movement needs immediate attention.

Yes, I have been there and in fact I am there most of the time, except for an occasional bout of D. I feel your pain! Unless you are a severe C, like you and I, then most cannot understand what we experience. And no, I have been unable to resolve it yet. Still workin on that.
I have also gone weeks and have had every test known to man, seen a gazillion docs, and guess what...no help. One thing I have figured out, is the more I worry and dwell over it, the worse it seems to get.
But, even with all this, I have never been to the ER because of it. It seems to eventually work itself out.
Good luck finding answers.
