Hi all, i'm having some trouble getting my IBS under control, i have permanent bloated stomach, gas and every few days diarrhea as well, i have struggled for a few years with this but have over time got used to eating certain foods and know what to avoid making it much worse. (this website has been a fantastic help, thankyou!). i dont drink, dont smoke, rarely eat bread, chocolate or sugary fatty foods, i drink water, decaf tea and redbush tea, never drink fizzy coke etc. so why i have this horrid bloated feeling all the time i have no idea, plus i have put on weight and cant shift it, i eat healthily and exercise alot, getting v fed up ! so, question....is taking a course of colon cleansing tablets a good idea ? or will it make my already loose stomach worse than ever ?? any help, advice will be v appreciated. BW Kirsti

Welcome to the Boards.
The idea behind Heather's approach to IBS is that our tummies are super-sensitive and need to be soothed rather than annoyed more. Given that, any type of colon cleansing is a really bad idea - it just irritates the gut.
What soluble fiber foods are you using as a base for your meals?

Welcome to the board,
Colon cleansing is not recommended for individuals with IBS. Here is a short note about it from Heather in a newsletter titled Detox Diets: Fasting and "Cleansing" Not Necessary. Unfortunately, the link to Dr. Weil article is broken. Here is the correct link. Also, you might find this article on the NYU Medical School web site Colon Cleansing: Don't Be Misled by the Claims about the perils and false claims about colon cleansing.
Good luck .

Those are such a scam! A soluble fiber supplement is a must and the best place to start to help with the full, bloated feeling.
-------------------- IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!
