My doctor put me on Celexa today. I have the generic form called Citalopram mg. Has anyone ever took this and if so did it help with anxiety/panic attacks?

I started my celexs(generic brand) lastnight at 6:45. I took one 20mg pill. It gave me headaches, gas, nausea, and extremem yawning and everytime I yawned I thought I was going to puke, plus I felt spacey. Around 8:30 this morning I finally started feeling a little better just slight spaceyness. My body is so sensitive to meds I think I will ask my doc if I can cut them into half and take only 10mg a day and see how that works. I also asked my doc if this would make my d issues worse and he said no it should actually help. When I got home I looked this med up on the internet and it says its an SSRI. I thought those groups of meds would make d issues worse? Anyway just wondering if anyone has experience with Celexa or anyother SSRI who has ibs-d and if it helped with that or your anxiety issues?

I switched from Paxil (20mg dose for years) to Celexa. My PCP started me at 10mg and I experienced a lot of yawning and a decrease in libido. At 10mg it did nothing for my anxiety so i asked my PCP if i should up it to 20mg however he was hesitant since it would probably make the side effects worse (the decrease in the libido..which i wasn't ok with) so I switched to Effexor. I know a few people that had good experience with celexa though. I would suggest giving it a try for 4 weeks and usually they start you at 10mg for 1-2 weeks...takes a while to get used to.

Hi mrae, I was wondering how you're doing with the Celexa. I am also IBS-D and need to find an anti-depressant that won't worsen my symptoms too much. This drug was recommended to me. How has it been for you? Thanks, Clara

My doc had me stop taking it because the side effects were to much. I would give it a try if I were you because alot of people have said it works great for them.

Personally, I was having anxiety that was tied in with my IBS, so much that I was afraid to go to the mall or out for groceries unless I knew I was absolutely okay.
I started taking 20mg Citalopram (Celexa) and I find now I no longer have these fears, which were exaggerating my symptoms of IBS.
So it's lessened my IBS QUITE a bit. I still can't drink coffee all day and expect to be off scot-free, but that's ok.
