I had blood work done today and my bilirubin is twice the normal level. Has anyone else had this result? I've been feeling very light-headed, nauseated and fatigued. I thought I was anemic but my hemoglobin was just fine. Unfortunately, I took some iron supplements over the weekend and guess what.....I had an IBS attack! I feel like I have a serious hang over! I knew I shouldn't do the iron but I did it anyway. When will I ever learn! Anyway, any thoughts out there on the bilirubin?

Thanks!

Doesn't this have something to do with your liver?

Oops! Yes, it is about the liver. Now that I think about it, there was some talk about the liver on here. I do another search! Thanks!

Didn't the doctor tell you what it meant? They should know these things you would think. I'm surprised if they gave you the test results that nobody explained to you what that meant. Have you tried searching the web? I'm sure you have. I would definitely call your doctor. Just to be safe,

Hi Christy! I did talk with my doctor about the elevated bilirubin. He said that my gall bladder is not eliminating the bilirubin for some reason. As we all know, doctors don't always have an answer. Sometimes we have to wait, do more tests, and wait some more. However, my sister had the same result with her blood work last year but when they did an ultrasound on the gall bladder it came back normal. The next test was to look for hepititis and the bilirubin was normal. There are some liver problems in my family so I was a bit freaked with the result but felt better after talking to my sister. At least I'm not anemic!! There are a few more results that will be coming so I'm doing the waiting game.
