I've been off sugar for some time now...and I'm going NUTS!!!! I can't have sugar or yeast b/c of my YI and on top of that I can't have many foods b/c of an ulcer.

I want me some SUGARRRR! HELP!

I'm not sure if I'm asking for advice, if I'm complaining, or what! LOL

Fri. night I had some soda (it was all that was served...no water available!) and the sugar gave me a head rush since I've been off it for so long (I'm even careful with fruits!)

I want to cheat SO BADLY!

Thanks for listening.....

*hugs*

Ruchie, try Stevia. It's IBS natural, safe and contains no sugar. You can cook with it and bake with it and you can't tell the difference.

Ruchie, isn't there sugar-free candy available at the supermarket? Yeah, I'm sure there is. In fact, there's sugar-free cookies too if I'm not mistaken. A friend of mine got the munchies when she tried quitting smoking, and she didn't wanna gain a lot of weight, so she was buying that sugar-free stuff like it was going out of style.

I'll keep thinking of things for you . . .

I've tried the powder...nothing doing. Have you tried the liquid...I'm curious to try it, but they don't sell it at our health food store....

Thakns for thinking of me Karin! I'm sure we'll figure something out!

We can't have that sugar substitute -- does that mean the sugar-free candy as well? So that candy has a sugar substitute in it? I guess it would have to, wouldn't it? RATS! I hate that!

Okay, so it's back to the drawing board . . . I'll keep thinking, Girlfriend! (And I'm glad you're here too!)

What about fruit juice? Didja say you can't have that either? Grape juice is so sweet and yummy -- I LUV grape juice. How 'bout THAT?

You're TOO MUCH!!!!!!!

Fruit juice, (fructose, right?) is hard for some of us to digest with IBS....for me, it's still too much sugar! I have to limit my fruit intake (yuckers!)

I guess it's only temporary...best way to look at it.

I'm just nervous I'm gonna OD on chocolate one day from a rage for sugar! LOL Right now I eat all day cause I feel deprived (and I'm sad...I can't get rid of my infection...), so maybe I should have ONE CHOCOLATE just to satisfy my craving? I read in a magazine that VERY STRICT diets even though this is not a diet to lose weight...it's still a diet!), can cause over-eating...that would be me right now...I'm an eating machine!

In any case...I think I'll continue not to eat the sugar for now...as long as I can hold off...wish me luck!

And, if you think of anything, I'm all ears....if you can come up with something I haven't thought of that I could have...I'd be SO GREATFUL!

*hugs*

Stay away from sugar free candy it is filled with
sorbitol. I eat one and it's like taking a laxative.
Would it be possible for you to just get a hard
candy and suck on it for the sweetness? I really
know how you feel. I've been off sugar for months
and I'd love to have something yummie to eat.

If you find something I'll be interested to know myself.

Ruchie - The only thing I can think of is IF you do break down, maybe have a hard candy so it will last longer?

Or, I guess go for the good ol' Bengal Spice.

How long do you have to go without sugar - I think I'd die without chocolate! Good luck!

Like you, I hate stevia and it even makes me sick.

Celiacs are supposed to stay away from it, even though it's natural.

Every try Rice syrup? Not that sweet but it will take away the cravings and is low on the glycemic index table.

I don't get it.................you're trying to clear up the infection, and you're not feeding it with anything yeast-y, right? And you're on a high dose of probiotics, right? So, if all that's true WHY can't you have sugar? Is this self imposed, what a doc told you to do, or what?
Granted, yeast needs sugar to grow but did you know ALL foods that go into your system eventually turn into glucose for energy. It's the only thing the cells can use. (Diabetics out there correct me if I'm wrong. Hubby is diabetic and that's what he says.)
So.................Ruchie, dah-ling, you want to explain more to me why you can't have surgar? If it were me, and I was being as good as you, I'd be making a chocolate syrup with water, sugar and cocoa...............then eating it by the spoonfulls!!! But then I am a chocolate (cocoa)junkie and drink the Giradelli's double chocolate hot cocoa mix daily with just hot water.........forget even adding any milk!!! It's a comfort food as far as I'm concerned.

Ruchie, Kandee's right about candy!! (lol)
I think avoiding too much sugar is wise if you have a yeast infection, but sugar didn't cause it in the first place and if sugar and yeasty foods were really so integral to this condition, I'm sure you'd have been cleared of it by now. I'd indulge a little - the mental and emotional benefits will surely out weigh any harm from eating just a little sugar. The probiotics would surely combat a little sugar.

As for the yeast infection itself - I'm assuming this is a feminine infection rather than oral thrush or a fungal skin infection - either way have you tried Grapefruit seed extract (take internally - in capsule form), this is a powerful anti-fungal, proven in clinical trials.

Also aloe vera and tea-tree oil are amazing at killing off yeast infections, I've used them myself to blast away a child's verrucas, a fungal skin infection and vaginal and oral thrush. You can take aloe vera internally (but NOT tea tree) and both can be slapped onto the skin copiously, used in a bath, swished around the mouth (spit it out after!) and (sorry to be so graphic) you can dip a tampon(Tampax) is that what you call them?? into it before inserting. If you're already trying all of the above, let me know and I'll investigate further...

Hope this is helpful Ruchie

Until the YI clears up...plus, I may be hypoglycemic...so this might be more of a perminenet thing....we'll see!

Thanks for the suggestion! The Bengal Spice isn't allowed with the ulcer though (can you imagine...not normal!) But at least that's temporary...I hope!

Thanks again Mags......here's to hoping I don't break down!

Ruchie: I have only used the liquid form. I also like the clear version, not the dark one.

Kandee,

This is what I was told to do. Not by my allopath but by a local naturopath. The doc told me he wants to check me for hypoglycemia when I'm well....but he's taking forever with EVERYTHING (I still haven't gotten the results of the blood work from a week and a half ago!) but I know I feel better without sugar. An apple here and there is ok...but even there I have to be careful. (That's through observation).

Rice syrup is too sugary for me right now. I actually (pardon me for being so graphic) feel it when I put ANY sugar (or yeast) in me "down there".

I know, I know...get a new doc. I'm still trying to figure it out....

Thakns Kandee...if you have more to say/ask please feel free!

Love,
Ruchie

Wow, thanks!

So you use a tampon to insert it? You dip the tampon? I have been trying to figure out what you could use....you can actually insert probiotics directly...maybe I'll try that...now that I know to use a tampon to insert it!

The sugar is also a prob cause I may be a hypoglycemic. Since I know suagr doesn't make me feel good in general...it's prob. not a bad idea to cut it out as much as possible. I hope to get to the point where I get my sugar from fruit and most of what I eat is non-processed food...with the occasional honey stick for a special treat! Even that would do me in right now it seems...

Thanks for all your help! I really appreciate it! I'll let you know how the probiotics go.....

*hugs*
