Switched from Bentyl to Librax.....the librax helps with the pain but is causing me to retain fluid plus now having C issues even though I am drinking at least 70 ounces of water a day...
Being predominately pain IBS I am looking for someone who also has mostly pain to see if you have tried the peppermint capsules....I also have GERD!

I really like the peppermint capsules. I've had very little pain while using them. However I don't have GERD, so can't really guarantee they will work as well for you. In theory Heather's capsules shouldn't cause too much trouble for GERD sufferers since they are enteric coated, meaning they don't activate til they've passed through your stomach. I guess the only way to find out is to give them a go.
Good luck!

Heather's peppermint capsules work GREAT for me. I take one an hour before bedtime, sleep peacefully absent any abdominal pain or cramping. I take another one first thing in the morning before eating anything. Heather's peppermint tea is also so very soothing during the day. I make a whole pot of it, drink the first cup hot and drink the rest tepid or cold throughout the day... works great and worth the effort. Tea counts the same as drinking plain water.
Give these things a go! You will probably be amazed.

When I took meds, and I have severe pain IBS, the bentyl and librax didn't work for me personally. I found Levsin or Levbid, actually worked better for me.

Nothing has worked better on the pain for me personally then Gut dirrected hypnotherapy. Way better then any drug I have used and I have used a ton.
I still take occassionally peppermint altoids personally.
I would not use peppermint if you have gerd.

If you don't have gerd, I believe peppermint is worth trying. It has helped me some as an antispasmatic and has some antibacterial properties, actually more then the antispasmatic prescriptions, I have been on personally. But with drugs and OTC's it is trial and error somewhat for each person.

Has the Librax started helping instead of causing the water retention and C? I am suppose to give Librax a try but am still slowly getting off the Librium.

FWIW, the peppermint aggravates my GERD terribly so I don't take it. I stick with fennel, ginger and chamomile.
