I don't usually eat pork products anyway, but I am making a cheese ball and thought I might roll it in imitation bacon bits. I don't have any so I can't read the label. Are the imitation ones ok or still contain the things we can't have. And if that's the case what can I roll my chicken cheese ball in (using the cream cheese substitute)? Thanks!

Most imatation bacon bits are made from soy.

Chopped chives might be something to roll them in, if you have a problem with soy. Bread crumbs might be an option as well.

Thanks. I have no problems with soy so it may be a good choice but I never thought of the breadcrumbs before. Good idea. Have you tried the Better Than Cream Cheese? I have not but I am picking up my order tonight. Just wondered.

I have not tried that, but I don't have a huge issues with diary or pork personally.

On the bread crumbs you can actually smash up croutons in a platic bag carefully or buy some.

I saw there are some different flavors of Better then cream cheese also out there.

I have had a while ago Tofutti ice cream and it was good.

I don't think the fake cream cheese/cheeses would be tasty enough for a cheeseball. They are better in other things. I have made good DF warm artichoke/spinach dip with fake cream cheese but it doesn't have much taste in itself.

I made it tonight but actually did it as a dip as I was not willing to form it into a ball and wait for it to chill. It was actually good. I use the fake cream cheese, shredded chicken and lipton soup mix and mix together. It was excellent.

You might add garlic and green onion for taste, and some parsley for color. I do think you can make a successful cheese ball with or without the bacon bits. However, there ARE soy bacon bits available and also turkey bacon. Also rolling in finely chopped walnuts or almonds adds significant flavor and texture.

Best of luck making a wonderful cheeseball. Perhaps you might want to share your final recipe here under the receipe section. That would be nice!
